I'm not the one who said they were driving a Rolls, Neo! I think Cira's post is off, too.

NeoPatrick,

We have 2 older Toyotas registered in Naples, both of us have totally clean driving records, we insure with Geico and pay $700 EACH. Geico doesn't use agents, I don't think, so HOW did you get your car ins so low??

Wow. I was with State Farm for ages, but when the second car was put in my name, they would only write it as two policies. Geico put them both on one. But I drive each less than 2000 miles a year and don't "commute to work" which helps too, I suppose. I did it by phone.

Well we live in NYC - and rates are high here (theft is moderate) but there are a LOT of expensive cars on the road and a bunch of uninsured drivers. We pay lees than that for 2 cars (but with perfect driving records) for $300/$500 policies - but with $1K deductible.

Many people pay more than they should since:

1) they don;t shop around (we have a corporate discount through my job with a 60K employee conglomerate)
2) they take low deductible with full glass coverage (big waste of money)
3) they don;t drop collision on older cars
4) they don;t keep a clean driving record (IMHO unless you are a kid - or just a really bad driver - it's not hard to avoid tickets)

well, I guess the OP won't be back unless they decide to become an insurance sales person. Does anyone even remember the original question....

I've printed out the parts of this page that suggests they are paying too much, comments about personalized plates, etc; As many of you have done here, all I can do also is suggest. I cannot force someone to do things. I looked over the car insurance costs and the actual costs are $2650 for 2 old cars). A Honda and a Toyota. I'm sure that reading all your comments will assist in their making a choice to shop around and bring their bill down. Their driving record, by the way is very good. Only one ticket last year which was dismissed in court (for one driver). The other driver's record is impeccable. You are all on to something and I thank you. Now, back to heatherwotten, and their original post.

LOL NewbE.

In looking at Neo's post again, I see that State Farm would only write the insurance as two policies. In this case, they also wrote the policy's under two separate numbers, they include discounts for "safe driving" and and a few other things, but they are two separate policies.

Don;t understand why they were looking at FL to begin with - since the sone seems to hate heat.

Looking for an inexpensive place with moderate weather (not hellishly hot or tons of snow) one would think that areas in NC or VA away from cities would be a better choice.

We retired to Miami, but I agree there are many lovely places in Florida,in the West Coast like
Sarasota or near Orlando like Winter Garden.
The best advice would be rent for a while and then buy. Taxes are much less all together and
Food etc is cheaper than New York, so I am guessing cheaper than Ct. Big savings for not buying
Winter Cloth, boots, stockings and so forth.
Many flights to Europe and South America. all kind of cruise ships sailing from SouthFlorida ports.
There are plays ,Broadway Musicals playing in several theaters, good productions they play a few days here a few days there. What I dislike more is that people tend to drive everywhere.
But lots of swimming , canoeing , sailing etc
I hope you the best.

I want to move back north, it is so freaking hot here and the bugs drive me crazy. Our house is worth 1/2 the value now so stuck. Jobs are pitiful and if you live in some areas it is a ghost town. The space coast of Fl for one example. Orlando traffic is a nightmare and the politicians are all bought and paid for by major interest groups. Stay in Ct.

Good idea, flpab, we all know the politicians in Ct. are all perfect. And of course there is no traffic there. And of course Connecticut real estate taxes are a fraction of Florida's. LOL

I have ants because it is so dry right now. We keep getting our toes bit. Not the fire ants but another type.
Alan Greyson is crasy 75% of the time but really the only one not bought. We really need trains but the Gov gave back the money so they keep adding lanes to 1-4 and 95.
Taxes are not super bad but I just had my parents taxes done here since they both died this year and the accountant was so surprised by the lack of property taxes they paid in Delaware. No school tax once they reach a certain age. That is by far my biggest tax and we are retired. Delaware coastal areas are very nice and milder winter. I have been looking at Wilmington N.C.

Hi,
Whatever you do, be very careful NOT to get your advice from a realtor. They will not tell you about the crime from all the illegals in the state, especially S.Florida. They will not tell you much about the humidity in the summer but will dwell on the winter weather which is beautiful. So beautiful, that people from all over the world will come to visit in the winter creating gridlock everywhere.
My mother was born and raised here and moved out when she turned 21. I didn't believe her when she told me about the humidity and I moved here to Lake worth, when I turned 21. I kept asking when football weather started. It never does. The sun angle is brutal even in late September. I plan to move out as soon as my youngest daughter leaves home. Summers are brutal and this year our rainy season seems to be absent. It's barely June here and it's 92 degrees with a heat index over 102.
If you can find anywhere else to move besides Florida, especially South Florida. Do yourself a favor. Humidity greatly increases arthritis pain as well.
Truth from someone who lives here and has no monetary interest in having you move here. Be very careful.
P.S. Disney is packed in the winter with tourists and unlivable in the summer due to the intense heat.

Welcome to Fodors, atelise. This thread was started in October 2013.
It's nice that you offered you input as someone might find this on a search [as you likely did] but it's always a good idea to check the dates on threads on here.

I love these folks who think 90 degrees and humid in Florida is hotter than 90 degrees and humid somewhere else.

LOL!! Did they mention it rains a lot?!

If it comes as a surprise to you that Florida is hot and humid and gets lots of tourists, I fear for you, I really do.
