Washington DC weekend - where tostay?

Daughter and I are going to the Kirov ballet at the Kennedy Center next weekend - we live near Gettysburg and want to make a weekend of it. Looking for an affordable $150/night and safe place in the area of Mt. Vernon/Alexandria/Georgetown. Any help will be greetly appreciated.

Several very recent posts with similar question -- scroll through the top 100 recent ones that mention DC or search on it. Think you also need to check a map, Mt. Vernon is way south of Alexandria, which is across the river and down some from Georgetown. What you want is Rosslyn.

Thanks - I ended up at the Crystal City Hilton - seems like a great location...metro to Kennedy Center, 98.00/night.

Thanks

That'll be very serviceable but not particularly aesthetic. Enjoy the Kirov (jealous!).

Cassandra - FYI the Kirov was incredible. I am an opera person and wasn't so much excited about the ballet - -I have to say it was worth every penny. The last Act in La Bayadere is not to be missed.

The Crystal City Hilton was just OK- daughter and I spent $20 each way on taxi (incl. tip. Dinner at the "600" at Watergate - it was ok - not great - food was lukewarm, etc.

Husband and I are going back to DC for Pink Martini w/NSO at the end of Feb. We are looking for a place to stay that would be within walking distance of the Kennedy

Your best option would be to get a hotel that is very close to a Metro station. The Kennedy Center has a free shuttle service that runs hourly to and from the Foggy Bottom/GWU Metro station.

Excuse me, I meant to say that the KC shuttle runs every 15 minutes, not hourly.

For hotels walking distance from the Kennedy Center, check out One Washington Circle Hotel, River Inn and George Washington University Inn.

You are looking for "West End" Foggy Bottom or est ern edge of georgetown)location, again try the Lombardy on PA Ave(negotiate)Wyndham at Massachusetts Ave, Ritz Carlton, Sheraton, 4 Seasons. Just depends on how much you want to spend.

PS Try the Tabard Inn for a special, romantic and lovely dinner!
It's also in Foggy Bottom near GWU.

Tabard Inn is on N street near 18th in the Dupont Circle area; Foggy Bottom/GW is around 23rd and K.

Sorry for the mistake...I was placing it at Nectar's spot...) You are correct with Tabard location....but most tourists will never find it.

In Penn Quarter, look to restaurants "proof" (American w a twist & great bar)IndeBlue, or Zatinya ( middle eastern) all in the same block across from the National Portrait Gallery between 6 & 8 on H St near China town and AT Gallery Place Metro. Also BLT Steak House, La Chaumiere in Georgetown, Les Halles (french steakhouse chain...great fries) on and on.......
DC is s a great eating town these days....tons of restaurants in any price range or cuisine. (except cheap!)

Thanks everyone - turns out the Doubletree is within .3 mi from the KC, room rate of only 122/night (AARP rate) but 25/day for parking.

Any ideas for not paying so much for parking?
