Washington DC, Hyatt choices

Have enough points for two free nights (our full stay) at one of the following Hyatt Places: Georgetown West at 2121 M St. NW; White House at 1522 K St. SW; or National Mall at 400 E St. SW. For our dates the White House one would be $450 a night, the Georgetown one is $193, and the Mall one is $171 -- but as I mentioned could get any of them free with 12,000 points a night. Which would you think is better (although we aren't sure exactly what we want to do -- will want nice restaurants in evening in walking distance. We think we'd rather not stay at the big regular Hyatts (Park Hyatt out of the question).

The White House location will be walking distance to a lot of places, Smithsonian museums, White House, lots of restaurants. However, it depends on what you want to do. The metro is clean and easy to use if you are not driving.

I have never been in Georgetown, so I can't speak of that location.

DC is a wonderful city. I have been there twice, 2 days first time and 5 days second time and didn't even touch the surface of what there is to do.

I'd rank them:

1. Georgetown West
2. White House
3. National Mall

Nothing wrong with any of them.

It's technically West End, not Georgetown, but GT West has the best evening atmosphere for walking to restaurants. It's between GT proper and Dupont Circle. Easy walk to a zillion (slight exaggeration) good restaurants. Equidistant five minute-ish walk to two metro stations -- Dupont Circle (red line) and Foggy Bottom (blue).

Don't know what is driving the price (not that it matters to you in this case) on the WH Hyatt but I'd be inclined to ask to see whether or not it's super booked b/c of a conference or something. For reference, the WH and GT West Hyatt's are about a 20 minute walk from one another.

The National Mall Hyatt is primarily a Gov't crowd during the week b/c of its location. Restaurants and businesses tend to tilt to that and weekend tourists.

Love the West End neighborhood for staying in DC (we've stayed all over, but our kids have lived in DuPont Circle for a few years, so the last few hotels have been in the West End). Do you like Indian food - among the millions of good restaurants, Rasika West is in the West End, across from the Renaissance, and it is excellent.

Great answers. I guess I should have explored the actual addresses more before asking. I was not really "into" staying in Georgetown and ignored that one -- but yes, I do know that west end area -- right across from Ritz Carlton (where we had drinks and dinner last time) and LOTS of restaurants and activity. Sounds perfect, and sf7307 I like the recommendation for Rasika West. It was actually on our list last time and we never made it.

I too was curious why the White House one was double price -- but it seems generally it is more expensive than the others, although reviews mention a lot of "old" and "worn out" references, while the Georgetown/West End one is "brand" new. In fact when I brought it up on Google views, it shows a vacant lot there being built!

So it's booked. Thanks again.

I vote with the rest -- West End. If you want to go to Rasika West which is excellent, be sure to book ahead. Sometimes you can snag a table outside with them without a reservation. Also good in that area is Ris http://www.risdc.com.

yestravel, I just looked at Ris. OMG. Sweetbread appetizer AND rabbit pappardelle. Sounds like heaven.

I haven't been in the last year, but always had good meals there and at 1789 when she was quite awhile ago.
