Hello
Anybody stayed at the Waldorf Astoria - and the so called "Staff-rooms" , and could tell me something more "spesific" about the rooms ?
Does this offer (198,- I think) also include breakfast ?
Best regards

Anne Marie,
I didn't stay in a staff room when I was there in October. I stayed in a deluxe two dbl. bed room. I payed $179.00 per night on one of Hilton's special rates. I guess the hotel wasn't full with conventions that weekend. We didn't have breakfast included and I don't think they normally do that. The room was o.k. I wouldn't have wanted to pay any more for it. The Waldorf is huge so after walking all day in NYC you have to wander the hallways looking for your room. The lobby is nice but when you get to the floors where the rooms are it looks pretty old. I noticed that the doors had layers and layers of paint on them. If you want to be able to say you stayed at the Waldorf, I don't think the rate your paying is too bad. I'm leaving for NYC on friday and this time I'll be staying at The Benjamin it's across the street from the Waldorf. I popped in when I was last there and it looked really nice. I can report back when I get home Monday and let you know how it was, if you'd like.

Can you check out the New York Palace while you're there?
Thanks Sarah!

Sean,
I just looked up the location of The Palace, it's only a couple of blocks from where I'm staying. I will certainly try to check it out for you. I just want to add to my post to Anne Marie. My overall impression of the Waldorf was that it's defintely a chain hotel. The service was not good. I wrote a review of the hotel under the rants & raves section of Fodors. I went to the Waldorf with the expectation of it being this luxurious, grand old dame, where the service is first class and I was disappointed. If you have lower expectations maybe you won't be disappointed.

Hi:
The Waldorf is OK if you are the President or a head of State.
If you want luxury go to The Plaza or The Pierre.
The New York Palace is on 50th and Madison Avenue. Great place! It is on the East Side of Manhattan.
All your West side activities (Broadway, Times Square, etc) will have to gotten to by cross town bus or cab or a looong walk. Hope this helps!

Thanks AC
The Palace seems to be the only luxury hotet that can do a proper suite for a weekend in March at under $400 a night-unless you know somewhere different.
Sarah-if you could check out the public rooms at the Palace,I would be pathetically grateful.I want somewhere I can park my aged mother in the lobby with a drink where she will feel safe and can watch the great and the good go by

The Palace is one of the nicest hotels in town and the lobby was just recently redone. They have a nice bar/restaurant area and sometimes have a small band playing jazz. She will enjoy the beauty of the lobby and feel very comfortable.

BTW, The Palace also does High Tea, she may even like that better.

Being a Carole King fan I always wondered about the Waldorf Astoria. We booked a staff room there and LOVED it!
The room was wall papered with high ceilings and contrasting light green paint. It had cherrywood furniture and a wonderful "feel" to it. We arrived early due to our flight (nightmare) and they gave us the room at 9:00 a.m...No hesitation. We were right by the elevator AND the room where complimentry breakfast(salmon, bagels, pastries, toast, juice, coffee, newspaper etc. was available for breakfast. They also had an afternoon "tea" with delicious treats.
The bar downstairs was something out of a Bing Crosby movie. Great bartenders!Had a Manhattan there (Yuk). We enjoyed walking aroung looking at the grand ballrooms. It was a high point of our trip to NY for me.
