Waikiki Doubletree After Kauai?
DH must go to Honolulu on business (oh, what a shame!), but we're flying first to Kauai for five days. We'll arrive in HNL early on a Thursday morning (October) and fly back to the midwest on Friday night's redeye. We're looking at the Doubletree Alana Waikiki--I'd enjoy walking the beach while he's working (oh yes!), and his business is around the Ala Moana Mall. We can get an O/V room on an upper floor for $150. Any pros or cons to this choice? Also, any recommendations for B/L/D while we're there? Any must-do's? We'll have a car. Thanks!

Nice location even though it is a couple of blocks from the beach. 10 minutes from Ala Moana Center, 10 minutes from International Market Place. Close to Ala Wai Harbor. Close to Ala Moana Beach and magic Island.
The beach runs the entire length of Waikiki, so the hotel is only a few minutes away from the beach.
Don't know if this is a pro or a con: O/V there may be OK, but there are several tall hotels between this hotel and the beach. But, it is an O/V at $150 rather than one for much more at the hotels on the beach.

Arizona Memorial is a must, but if your husband will be working, will you be able to go there? National Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) is nice. Has a great overlook of the city. Tantalus/Roundtop Drive is in same vicinity.
Dukes is always a good choice for dinner. Lots of breakfast specials Shorebirds in Outrigger Reef on the Beach has a good breakfast buffet. Nick's Fishmarket is only a couple blocks from that hotel. It's in the Gateway Hotel. Todai is a seafood restaurant. It has a great buffet. Located almost right across the street from that hotel. Moose McGillicuddy's on Lewers has good breakfast and lunch specials.
One 10 minute stroll on Kalakaua Ave will give you plenty more choices.

moondoggie, we were successful with a priceline bid of $125 for the Marriott Waikiki....within walking distance of the Ala Moana Mall is the Prince and I see lots of people get that on priceline for $110 and lower. I thought the Outrigger Waikiki was a great location in Wakikiki...that's where Duke's is and I would pay the price to stay there for the location...
If a priceline bid does interest you, do your research on biddingfortravel and betterbidding (both.com)..
Also, go to tripadvisor.com...I think they have absolutely the best hotel reviews.
For breakfast...definitely Duke's...
for lunch and dinner..there's a gazillion million wonderful places...to drive and walk! Maybe some of the locals will jump in and let you know that!
Aloha.....

Outrigger Reef is a very good location right next to Fort deRussy park. It's a big hotel, right on the beach, several pools, a great spa, a couple good restaurants, lots of shops in the lobby. You can easily catch The Bus to the ala moana mall from the top on Saratoga street in front of the post office (2 blocks from that hotel).
