Waikiki Condo - 2 BDR
I'm looking for a condo, sleeps 4 adults for 3 nights next May. Does anyone have a specific VRBO.com or other recommendation? I'm looking to stay around $200.- to $250.- a night. 2 blocks from the beach would be okay. I've also seeing 1 week or longer requirements. And yes, I'm knee deep in a lot of research. We may go for 2 studio units if we can't find a 2 BDR. I do see quite a few of those at the Illikai Marina.

We stayed at the Ilikai a couple of years ago, and it was pretty decent.
The grounds are lovely. I believe, if I'm not mistaken that they have all sorts of rooms, including ones with bedrooms. We stayed in a studio, and it was nice.

Hi Egret- Thanks for the info on the Illikai. I did see some 1 Bedrooms listed, although the 2nd bed was a sofa bed. If we do stay at the Illikai we would go the 2 studio route. Also, I saw that Garden suites at the Breakers have 1 Queen in a bedroom and 2 twins in the living area. That could work for us.

Here's a list of the Waikiki-area lodgings -- click the hotel/condo name for each website:

Resortquest Waikiki Sunset (1,2 bedrooms) & Resortquest Waikiki Banyan (1 bedroom) are two decent condos.

Thanks all!
Suze- I am looking at the Hawaiiana, though they don't seem to have the bed configuration that the Breakers has in one unit. I will call them as they don't have as complete information on their website. They are definitely on my list.

Also about VRBO, there are a few condos that we could find for three days but most are for a week or more as I mentioned originally. The Illikai condos were appealing because we can get most of them for three days.

The Hawaiiana does have the configuration of 1 double in a bedroom and 2 twins in the living room also. BUT I do not like those particularly units (they are dark and dreary).
But their regular garden rooms are nice and ~$125/night (I think) if you decide to go the 2 studio unit route.

Thanks Suze. Actually, the double in the bedroom doesn't work cause DD and her DH need at least a queen. Yes, I am considering the Garden studios there. Beachwalk is a great location, and very tempting. My parents used to stay at the Breakers, but we're talking 60's - 80's.

With the Beachwalk/Lewers renovations now mostly complete, it's definitely a "happening" place to stay -- and Hawaiiana & Breakers have a charm that is fast disappearing from Waikiki.
If you're going to have a rental car for this visit, be sure to ask the hotels what parking is now available for their guests (and cost?). Last time we stayed at Hawaiiana, we could park in the garage of an adjoining property -- which is no longer under the same management. And on-street parking options are slim-to-none.

That's the beauty of The Breakers and the Hawaiiana Hotel... I'm guessing they have not changed in the past 20 years! Well I'm sure they've been remodeled and all because they are very well maintained, but the atmosphere at those two hotels is quite unique in Waikiki (that's looking regretfully more like Vegas all the time!).

It looks like most rooms at the Hawaiiana have been remodled, although the Breakers ones look pretty dated based on "Candid Travelers Photos" I'm seeing on Trip advisor. Also Suze, I saw that there are some units at the Hawaiian King with just a 3 night minimum. Though not the Pat Winston rental ones that I think you stayed at earlier this year.

Funny, I WAS just thinking about that! I can't remember if our beds were doubles or queens. Hawaiian King is a great fun & funky hotel. We had a regular apartment sized 2-bedroom rental there (kitchen, hall, bath, 2 bedrooms, one w/out window, eating area, living room, patio). It's further from the beach and didn't seem as nice as others you were looking at is why I didn't mention it. I love the place but think it might be considered a 'dive' by most folks.

Suze, I think DH and I would like the Hawaiian King. But my daughter wanted a little step up. Anyway, now Oahu is cut down to 2 nights, with 6 on Maui. We may go the Hawaiian Airlines package, so we have a shorter list of hotels to pick from (Aqua and Outriggers mostly in our price range).
