I'm going for a weekend in NYC in the middle of February and I booked a room at the W Hotel on Lexington through Priceline. I got the room for $150, which I thought was a great deal. I've always heard good things about W hotels and the hotel is rated 4 stars (through Priceline).

Then I looked at the reviews for this particular W hotel and so many of them have been awful!!!!

I lived in NYC for several years so I know most hotel rooms there are very small. I don't care about that. I just don't want to stay somewhere disgusting. It looks like I'm roped into this hotel now. Should I be scared? Has anyone stayed there? I know that most people who write reviews either tend to love something or hate it, so I'm hoping it's somewhere in the middle.

If you hate the room they put you in, request a move to a better room. Other than that, for $150 in NYC, you're doing pretty good.

For $150, there's no reason to be afraid. The rooms are small and probably need some updating. But the location is great and the price is good. Remember that at that price, you'd be sharing bathrooms with backpackers in the Bowry if you hadn't gotten it on Priceline.

We stayed there last year and were nervous about doing so after reading all the horrible posts. It was fine. Rooms are tiny, tiny and I really hate the security card you have to put in the slot in the elevator to get it to go up. Other than that we had an enjoyable stay and really can't understand what the negative posts were about.

i agree with the other posters. I stayed at the W Lex and it was fine. I think alot of people are disappointed spending big money there and thinking it's going to be one of the better Ws and it isn't, but for $150, that's a great deal.

Thanks! That makes me feel better. Yeah. The price is good! I could have stayed on my friend's couch in Astoria, but I thought it would be more fun to be in the city.

I stay at the W whenever I can, when they run specials. Anything under $200 at the W is a steal! My son in particular LOVES the place. The location is very good too. Easy walk to the heard of Midtown and not even a bad walk to Central Park.

I too have seen the bad reviews and I LMAO, I don't get those people. Yeah the rooms are small, that's the norm in NYC. But I pray for more bad reviews so that it'll be less popular and they'll run more specials! I have never had a problem with the service there and I've stayed at the W almost 10 times in the past few years.

The above post about the room card to operate the elevator is correct--it's a pain and half the times the card fails to activate the elevator. That's my only beef about the place.

We've stayed at that W a few times and it is absolutely fine. The only problem is the rooms are VERY small. Just ask for a better room if you can.
everything else about the rooms are wonderful -- great beds, great decor, etc.

$150 is a STEAL. I wouldn't think twice!

I have been to NYC dozens of times and have never had a small room, except at the W on Lex. I guess I have just been lucky.
Even though the room I had at the W was the size of a walk in closet, it was well designed and did not feel claustrophobic at all.
150 is such a bargain!

Just keep this in mind. For that price at the Pod Hotel (paying full price), you get a teeny room, half the size of the W rooms, with bunk beds. It sort of puts things in perspective. $150 for a hotel in such a central location in Manhattan is a steal by any stretch of the imagination. I think the people who complain about the W aren't being realistic. In Manhattan, you're paying for location, and this one is excellent. And, to be perfectly honest, it's a pretty well-run hotel.

No chance. I am not too crazy about W Hotels in general but based on my experience, Starwood has great customer service.
If you have any problems at all, contact Starwood.
I believe this is a corporate-owned property, which helps a lot.
This was a beautiful place when it opened.

roxann, go to Trip Adviser and punch in the name of your favorite hotel. It will shock you how many bad reviews are written about it.

Personally, I think Trip Advisor reviews are useless.

I find Tripadvisor reviews helpful. You just have to read them critically. Obviously there are some nit picky reviewers and strange situtations, but you do get a good general idea of what a hotel is like, as well as warnings.
