Visiting Molokai or Lanai from Maui
I will be on Maui next month and may want to visit Molokai or Lanai on one of the ferry trips avalable.
Do I need to rent a car whan I arrive or take a guided tour? Or are walking alternatives from the ferry terminals worth pursuing?

I have ben to both. On Molokai I rented a car and toured around by myself. very enjoyable.
On Lanai I utilized the shuttle buses from the dock to Manele Bay to Lanie City to the Lodge at Koele. Also very enjoyable.
There are no walking alternatives from the harbors.

Haven never done a day trip but stayed on each island. I think the biggest reason to visit Molokai is to tour the Hansons Colony. It is historical, heroic and one of the most beautiful spots in all of Hawaii.
If you want to snorkle and sun and visit two Grand Resorts and a great little Lanai City.... Then Lanai is the place.
