I've used 3 different helicopter companies on about 8 helicopter trip over the Hawaiian Islands, and I can honestly say that Blue Hawaiian is the best of the bunch. Top notch outfit.
But why a trip over maui? It is very boring. If you are going to any other island and have budgeted money for only 1 chopper trip, please do it over a different island. If you are only going to Maui, I guess you have no choice. But I think it will be a disappointment. Is the trip a wash? No, of course not. But when comparing Maui (by AIR!) to the other islands there's no comparison. Maui is possibly the prettiest island (from the GROUND) but the worst for viewing by air.

We took a 65 minute Blue Hawaiian ride over Maui in April. My husband (who really wanted to do this tour) and I both thought it was the biggest waste of time and money. It was the only disappointment of our entire 10 day vacation, and we kept quite busy with a variety of activities. They don't get close enough to anything and basically fly around the perimeter of the island high above the water. It was not thrilling, it was just plain boring. It's my understanding that either Big Island or Kauai are the islands to do a helicopter tour.

I must be easily entertained because I thought the trip was awesome. We flew up to waterfalls and into Haleakala, saw mountain goats and flew around Hana and the coastline was beautiful. I do however wish that I would have also taken a helicopter trip on Kauai as well.

Janettee, do you mean Blue Hawaiian? And did you fly out of Lihue or Princeville? I looked at Blue Hawaiian's website and I didn't think they fly out of Kauai. We would like to fly out of Princeville, since it is near our rental and closer to the better sights. Sorry to butt in, but would appreciate people's tips on this too.
