Visiting Detroit and Ann Arbor for the 1st time with 2 teens at Easter

As per the title, we値l be visiting a friend who lives near Ann Arbor to spend Easter together, and we値l bring our daughter and our nephew, both 16. We池e Italians and we live in London; we値l be landing in Chicago on the 27th, spend one day/night in downtown and then catch a train to Ann Arbor/Detroit. We値l spend 4 days in AA, including Easter, before going back to Chicago and then flying back to Europe.

Easter Day is also my daughter痴 birthday so I need do think at something special. Any suggestions in terms of trains to catch from Chicago, things to do, places to see, food to eat (both in Detroit and AA) will be super appreciated (and pls remember, we do have 2 teens with us!).

We look forward to the trip! Thank you!

My first suggestion is to purchase your Amtrak train tickets to and from Ann Arbor. I believe that Amtrak is the only train that goes between the 2 cities. We do not have the train system that many other countries have. That is a busy route during holidays so it can be crowded and sold out. I would also plan on going back to Chicago the day before your flight home. I have taken this train from Detroit to Chicago several times. The daytime trips have usually been ontime but without weather issues. My returning trips have almost always been late (one was 6 hours late) due to cold or snow. The end of March can be sunny and beautiful or we could get a snow storm. Better to spend a night in Chicago than miss your flight home.

Chicago has a lot to see. Just walking around can be fun. In Detroit and Ann Arbor there is also a lot to see. Detroit is famous for our Detroit style pizza, the sauce is on top of the cheese and it is baked in a square baking pan. We also have the coney island hot dog. A hot dog with chilli, mustard and onions. You should be able to get both of these in Ann Arbor as well.

Unfortunately, much is closed on Easter Sunday.. Hopefully it will be nice weather and you can spend some time outdoors in our many beautiful parks. Belle Isle in Detroit is particularly beautiful. There is a conservatory, a maritime musuem and a small aquarium.
