Visiting Colonial Williamsburg in October
My family will be taking a trip CW and will be staying at the Williamsburg Lodge. Has anyone stayed there within the last couple of months? I understand that they have been doing remodeling and renovations. I have read past reviews and they were not favorable prior to the constuction. Also, I picked this place because it is located in the heart of CW. Is it better to stay in CW or should we stay elsewhere and drive in everyday? Thanks for any help.

Just spent 6 nights at the Williamsburg Lodge and it was great. Keep meaning to do a trip report....but haven't gotten around to it.
The Lodge is beautiful and - yes - there is still construction going on, but our room was in the wing closest to the construction and we were never bothered.
The Lodge is very conveniently located - either for walking to CW or for taking the shuttle bus. I definitely think it's worth staying here - rather than driving in everyday. And the street by the Lodge is perfectly located for hopping onto the parkway that takes you to either Jamestown or Yorktown.
My only "complaint" is that breakfast was not included as part of the room price. There was a restaurant by the Golf course that was open, but we usually walked into CW to the Barnes and Noble and ate at their little cafe (Starbucks coffee and Krispy Kreme doughnuts).
We were there with 2 teens (13, 14) and 3 adults (including my MIL). Let me know if you have any specific questions and I will try to help!

Grcxx3, If you're ever back here and are looking for breakfast, go a little past the B&N down Prince George St to Aroma's, a locally owned coffee house with some wonderful pastries and breakfast foods. Great for lunch and light dinners tool

Grcxx3, I am so glad to hear the the Lodge will be a pleasant place to stay! We will be staying for 4 days with a 3 year old and a 1 year old. I have been wondering about the meal situation. So thanks for the breakfast tip. The lodge sent me an email stating that I should make reservations at some of the restaurants. Would you recommend doing this? And thanks to obxgirl, we will try Aroma's.

We go to Williamsburg at least once a year - we normally stay at the Inn. Our kids are the same age. The Inn has a couple of suites that would allow you to put the crib in a separate room. I am not sure if the Lodge has suites like that. In addition, we have often used the babysitter service there and have almost always been thrilled with the sitters. However, the last one we had was an elderly woman who had a tough time managing two. She was great with the baby - but the three year old was too much (and he is a good kid). We actually took him with us rather than leave him with her.
I highly recommend a morning trip to Busch Gardens. My toddler loved the kids activities there. We spent the morning taking in the toddler rides (no lines) and ended our day around 12:30 with the German Oompah band at the beer garden. He was doing the chicken dance and having a great time!
The best part about touring Williamsburg with the three year old was the garden maze behind the Governor's mansion - its way in the back but he had a great time running around the hedges.
We almost always did room service for the kids before our dinners out! Everything was great. Williamsburg is lovely.
Have a great trip.

We were in CW at the end of June/beginning of July. I second obxgirl's recommendation of Aromas. We didn't do b-fast there b/c we stayed at a B&B, but popped in for drinks and a snack a couple of times. The lunch menu looked great as did the desserts. They also have fondue. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have. Been meaning to do a trip report...it is on my list of things to do.
