If I only have 1 or 2 days, would it be more fun for my kids(young 20s)to visit Kodiak or Homer. I don't think they are interested in fishing. We will be driving from Seward.
There are so many choices and I need opinions!

I don't know if you have enough time--someone who has done it would have to say--but I really regret we didn't make a trip to see the bears. That's my suggestion, especially since you aren't interested in fishing.

We naively thought we would see bears all around Alaska but in mid-July, there were none to be found, except in Denali.

Can you drive from Seward to Kodiak??

You can't drive from Seward to Kodiak. You have to take the ferry or seaplane.

Anyway, you need supplemental time to plan a trip to Kodiak. Weather can disrupt your itinerary, so, it is one of those places you really can't do in a day or two without contingencies.

However, if I weren't a fisherman, I'd prefer the Glenn Highway to Homer if you've already done the water in Seward.

I lived in Kodiak for 22 years so maybe I can give you some insight. First off, you will have to take a ferry out of Homer or Seward or fly into Kodiak. Both Alaska and ERA fly into Kodiak, and Alaska does fly jets. ERA flys smaller planes. The RT cost to fly from Anchorage to Kodiak is expensive and if you do the ferry, I believe the shortest time is like 12 hours or more. I have never done the ferry because of the time involved.
That being said, Kodiak is very beautiful, an island with gorgeous blue sea and mountains. The weather can be an issue, even in summer. Just talked to friends there today and they have had a spell of rain and fog for about 10 days, not unusual. If you don't like to fish, Kodiak is probably not where you want to go. It also does not have any great restaurants to speak of. Basically, Kodiak is a working fishing town/harbor. It is certainly worth a trip if you hunt or fish, but it is not set up for the tourist trade. That's what I love about Kodiak, it is still old Alaska in that sense, and on a nice day, one of the most beautiful islands in the world.
