Virgin Aircrafts

Hi

Does anyone know about the different types of aircraft Virgin fly?
I'm flying Heathrow to New York and from what I can see - the morning flight is a '346' aircraft and the afternoon flight is a '744'. Is this right?
And if so - what's the difference?

Thanks

Martin

Airbus A340-600 or Boeing 747-400. The Airbus is probably newer. I prefer them to Boeing although the 747-400 is a comfortable aircraft as well.

Martin...both of these aircraft are brand new to Virgin.
Boeing 747-400 Passenger Capacity
48 Upper Class
32 Premium Economy
306 Economy
Airbus 340-600 Passenger Capacity
50 Upper Class
28 Premium Economy
233 Economy
Here are some recent reviews of both aircraft regarding comfort/IFE,food crew, etc that you might like to peruse.

Martin...Personally I prefer the 747.From the reviews I read, the problem seems to be the seats are very cramped, having less room than other airlines offer. But I cannot tell you from my own experience.

The best unofficial website I've seen on all things Virgin is www.virginflyer.com

You may also want to check the message boards over at flyertalk.com (specifically the Virgin Atlantic board).

What class are you flying? The main difference is that with the 747 you have additional seating on the upper deck but that only affects premium economy and upper class.

Hi,

All the Airbus 340-600 aircraft have the new vport in flight entertainment system ( video on demaand) with up to 50 movies, 15 games, radio and 50 CD jukebox, with a sky map.
At the moment only 2 of the 747-400's have vport equipped ( others will be refitted in due course) The other 747's have a different entertainment system (still personal ie at every seat) ( Arcadia or Oddessy w) with up to 20 movie/tv channels, audio and skymap

Regards
