Vermont near Woodstock

Please can someone help me with a little planning. After Boston we are heading to Montreal for 2 nights. I want to stop for 1 or 2 nights on the way. Where would anyone suggest. Woodstock or ? Would you advise 1 or 2 nights ?
Many thanks

When?
How much do you want to spend?
How do you feel about small inns like B&B's?
How do you feel about Inns that are on a hotel scale with dinner as well as breakfast?
Why do you want to stop there?

Unless you want to use Woodstock as a base for local/regional touring, I can't imagine why you would want to spend more than one night there.

It is charming in an upscale way, but unless you want to shop and shop, you can see pretty much everything in town in half a day.

I thought Woodstock was in New York State.
The music festival in 1969 was not in Woodstock but was moved at the last moment.
If you want Vermont go visit Ben & Jerry in Burlington, VT.

There is a Woodstock in VT, also, I've been through it coming from Killington to I91, and don't recall anything special, but it would be an okay place to stop, but I think it mainly has B&Bs, some rather pricey. If you just want a cheap chain hotel or something, you'd find more at White River Junction not very far away, which is at the intersection of two major routes.

If you want to spend some time in a town doing something, I'd stop in Burlington or Montpelier, I guess. I don't think there's a whole lot to do in these small towns, of course. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/26/tr...r-vt.html?_r=0

I think Burlington has the most to do.
