Vegas for Labor Day
My husband and I are planning on using some frequent flier miles to go to Las Vegas for a long weekend. We'd fly in Friday evening and leave Monday afternoon. The prices for hotels I am finding are pretty high, considering that I thought Las Vegas was supposed to be cheap during the summer. Is it just the long weekend that is making the rates high? Or maybe they are always this price? For example, I got a quote of 180/180/100 on HotelDiscounts for Treasure Island. Is that a good price?
Please don't belittle my question. That is what I don't like about this board. I am just seeking a quick answer. My husband and I are in our late 20s, will be gambling, and want to stay on the Strip. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Expect price to be higher than a typical weekend, due to the holiday. Also, hotels are CHEAP during Sun-Thur, not so cheap anymore on Fri+Sat (although you'll still likely get more for your money than any other tourist destination in the country).
I just did a quick search on Expedia for your dates and found Harrah's for 129/139/99, Flamingo 125/125/95, Ballys 135/135/89. All of these have VERY good locations. Barbary Coast is also at 109/109/109 but they don't have a pool, which you'll likely want in September.
Remember, there is also a potnetial strike brewing at the end of the month, which if it surfaces, i THINK will make prices come down for a brief period (but best bet is to book a cancellable back up in the meantime, and continue to check rates)

The previous poster is exactly right. Weekend rates are always considerably higher than week day rates, and holiday weekends generally run even higher than a regular weekend. Last year we spent the 3-4 nights immediately following Labor Day in Vegas and got a great rate at Paris for only $69 per night. Plus they upgraded us to a suite, which was awesome! One year we decided to go for New Years Eve (big mistake, I would NOT recommend this to anyone). We stayed at the Imperial Palace, which is just okay but located in the center of the Strip. We paid over $100 a night and there was a 3 night minimum stay. Timing is everything in Las Vegas!!!! Have fun!

Try going directly to the hotel websites. They have good rates that may not show up elsewhere. Try www.imperialpalace.com. I just stayed there with the "Casino Gold" special for 55 dollars a night. Good Luck !

Well, we decided to change our trip to the weekend before Labor Day. Were going Thursday through Sunday and got a room at Ballys for 59/109/109. Cheapest deal I found anywhere. Friends of ours, our age, just stayed at Ballys and loved it. So, it should be a good time!

Lori, ask wherever you stay whther they have an American X-press discount( that is if you have one) We just got back from Vegas and got great rates at the Flamingo , right next door to Bally's, just mentioning that card to the toll free number reservationist. You are so right about people belittling on this site. I never ask anymore . There are some real jerks who frequent this site. make sure you go the buffet at Paris, Ballagio, and the Alladin. they are to die for!! have a safe trip!!!!!!!
