Help with Vegas Hotel Bargains Pls
Am flying (solo female nurse) into Vegas 2-6-04 for 1 night prior to education conference and medical company won't pay airfare or 1 night prior hotel so I need to pay out of my pocket..rest of time we will be in night time medical seminars so I'd like to see Vegas one night.
Would like to stay in one of the 3-5 star hotels ie Bellagio, Alladin, Boardwalk, Paris, Ballys for around $100.00 for 1 night. Could anyone with some tips on how to search internet, promos talk with hotels to get a good rate pls. share some tips. Thank you.

First of all, Boardwalk is a dump.
Next, download Travelaxe. It's the search engine for travel search engines. Try travelaxe.com. Get the best rates off there. Then, check the individual websites for each hotel (i.e. ballys.com)you're interested in. At each one, sign up for their email list which will send you the latest deals.
I usually book a fully refundable reservation right away, and then keep a close eye on rates and rebook if they come down. Other than Boardwalk, I don't think you have a chance of getting any of the others for $100 on a Friday. I'd recommend Barbary Coast or maybe Harrah's if you want to be close to center strip. If you can deal with off strip, Rio is not bad and can be had for close to $100, maybe a little over.
Your only other avenue is if you do substantial gambling, call and ask to speak to a host and ask if you can get the "casino rate", but you WILL have to gamble to get that rate.

2/6/04 is a weekend night (highest rates in LV are Fri-Sat nights) so there's no way you'll find a $100 rate at places like Bellagio or Venetian, etc.
In quickly checking rates I also see that this is a busy weekend in LV.
Even poor places to stay like Circus Circus are $99, and Aladdin (which is one of the best bargains in LV for what you get) is $249.
Excalibur is one of the worst places on the strip and often runs $49 a night during low periods--it's $149 on 2/6. That's a very bad sign.
Hate to be a doomsayer but it looks like bargains will be near impossible to find on strip hotels on that night.

If you can cancel your reservation, you may want to consider the Aladdin which Expedia is offering for $139. That's only slightly more than Bally's, but is a much nicer property. Or you could stay at the Luxor for their internet only rate of $109. The Luxor is probably comparable to Ballys, maybe slightly nicer. I've never stayed there, but my boyfriend loves the Luxor.

Check cheapovegas.com which has a direct link to all strip hotels. That site also has a link to LA Times. The Times lists checp stays - inferring it is limited to LA visitors. However, the rates are also available to anyone. I've not checked it lately, but you may find a good rate thru this approach for one of your preferred locations. The $75 noted by a previous post is a good rate for Flamingo. And the $129 for Aladdin is also a pretty good last minute Friday rate. Have fun!
