Gawd, I hate these threads. If a "dress code" exists, then there has to be corresponding "Fashion Police".

I haven't seen either since high school days - and they MEASURED to check the length of your mini-skirt. Initial measurement device = your skirt had to be as long as your fingers held alongside your body - no bent elbows allowed !

Am I dating myself here?

How is the heck did we sit down and climb stairs? Was there ANY fabric to sit on when we sat down?!?!?!

The skirts at Olympic Garden and Jaguar are much shorter than that!

Yes, starrsville, you *are* dating yourself! However, I come from that same era and remember that they could ask the girls to kneel on the floor and see if their skirts touched the floor and if not, they could be sent home for the day!! (And this was a public school!!)

On a separate note, I wanted to thank you for your thoughtful comments when I posted about life in the suburbs vs the city. You were one of the ones that imparted such a great perspective, that I have been able to put that issue aside in my life, for now, so I wanted to give you a special thank you!!

Re: the LV dressing query, I don't see these as "fashion police" issues, as much as a way of taking a fashion survey. One is always able to ignore the results but it can be elucidating to see what others think. When we were just there (LV) in March, I found myself having to remember that I was not at WDW for the way many, if not most, were dressed--altho in all fairness, that was during the day. Evenings most people were a *little* more dressed than daytime......

What a nice note, socialworker. Thank you.
For the present time I am definitely in the country and am loving it. The "big city" is less than an hour away. Who knows, one day it may be Manhattan. I love visiting friends thee. Maybe one day...

I did a double take when I saw the date of the first post. I am going to add to the thread though, because it is important for me to be 'the right amount of dressed up' when I go somewhere - especially in Vegas. I wouldn't think of going into a nice restaurant like Moongate or Onda at the Mirage in anything less that nice slacks and a silk shirt (and I'd probably be more comfortable with a shirt and tie). I've been to a number of fancier places and seen people in jeans an t-shirts, though. I've been surprised that they had gotten past the door.
There isn't a dress code in Vegas, but there is still a common sense dress code for wherever you are going. I do typically dress up to go out at night. Even for that, I keep in mind where I'm going. For a night gaming at NY-NY and going to Coyote Ugly, I'm going to wear jeans and probably a comfy short sleeved button down shirt and sneakers. For a night seeing Elton John and going to Pure or Shadow Bar at Caesars, I'm wearing slacks, a shiny long sleeved shirt and black dress boots.
Adapt to your surroundings.

Responses to particular posts:
DianeP 06/09/04 – Did you notice a difference in the audiences at Mama Mia! and Folies other than the shorts? Folies is an aging (and cheaper) show. The shows match their respective hotels, too. The Tropicana is an older hotel that is showing its age. It caters to a clientele who demand a much lower level of service than those at Mandalay Bay.

Sfe 06/12/04 – Going to Kahunaville in shorts is not a problem. Samba and Buccaneer Bay are a bit fancier than that. I believe their advertised dress code is ‘dressy casual’.

Fiana 06/28/05 – Your attire may change how the dealers interact with you, but they won’t change the results of the game ;-)

Hey Manduss:

How about just starting a new post on this subject since it is constantly changing plus there are so many old post that people keep responding to - I'm a guilty as the next.

I have been going to Vegas for over thirty years and have seen the change come full circle. I have gone through the dress up to the dungarees to shorts to dockers and I assume dress clothes will be next - plus I'm getting old.

My last trip I have noticed the young girls seem to be dressing more than the guys they are with. I just love those short skirts and high heels, but they are so unaware when doing the escalators.

I think a lot of it is economics because the classier the casino the better dressed the clientele for the most part.

I'm a blue collar guy and I love the Tropicana, but when a Ceasars' I do as tend to dress a little better.

I know, I know, it's an old post but I just couldn't help myself. 2 years ago hubby and I were in LV grabbing a few things at the local Sav-On drug, and bride and groom with attendees milling around waiting at photo lab for pix...only in Vegas

I think everyone's got the picture, Armani. No need to keep topping these.
