Yes, we went to a gorgeous spot and sat at a picnic table under a pergola overlooking a gorgeous valley view.

I don't know the name of the Road (It is off the Silverado Trail), but head towards Auberge du Soleil, go past the entrance of Auberge, on your right another 100 feet or so is parking and a picnic grove. Amazing views, picnic tables and grills.

We stocked up at Oakville grocery and ate our spread there. Our group of 10 were the only people there too, and that was in October!

I believe that Nina is referring to the picnic site on the grounds of Rutherford Hill winery. It's a very nice one, and even on hot days there usually is a cool breeze coming up from the valley.

I second Nina's shopping tip; the Oakville Grocery warrants a stop!!

I'm not sure if they let you picnic on the grounds, but the Joseph Phelps winery is also a lovely place overlooking the vineyards there.

A second for Joseph Phelps. The setting is beautiful. There are only two or three tables and you should call ahead to see if you can reserve one. At least that used to be the policy a couple of years ago.

Michael you're correct, the picnic grove was on the Rutherford Hill grounds.
