Vegas baby: Eloped for our Second "I do's" with Elvis
A long over due trip report!
I have been planning for about 5 months our second "wedding" as a surprise for our 20th wedding anniversary!
We landed in Vegas Monday evening, May 21st. Mandalay gave us an unexpected upgrade, I didn't even ask: 1,500sf newly remodeled suite! WOW! 5 flat screen tv's, two bedrooms, two baths, etc; Very wonderful! I kept my bathroom TV channel on the live video feed of the shark tank!
(at Mandalay Bay)
We spent two nights at Mandalay, then went to THEhotel for two nights, Bellagio 2 nights. I wish we could have just stayed in our big Mandalay suite!
THEhotel is still fabulous, but is starting to show wear. I can't understand why these hotels don't have better internet access. Mandalay bay put in all wireless and it worked great. THEhotel had horrible access, the wifi never worked. A technician came up and told us that the provider won't upgrade anything. My dh travels all around the world and said he had wifi at a tiny hotel in a third world country. So...there is no excuse!
I love the restaurant choices at Mandalay. But, they sure close early for a town that is open 24/7! The only thing open for a late snack at 11pm was "House of Blues" Perfect for snack and beer after arrival!
Dined at 'Shanghai Lily' Tues. night, very good. Nice and elegant.
Weather: Perfect for laying by the pool without roasting: 83 degrees. Mandalay bay
beach is nice. We hung out in one of the pools and read. "Lazy river" is very fast moving, and not lazy at all! It was ok for a few spins, but then we went to the regular pool.
ANNIVERSARY:
I planned the event with Graceland Chapel and they were great. A limo picked us up and took us to the chapel. Dh knew something was up, but didn't know for sure until the limo driver spilled the beans!
I sent Graceland a picture of a bouquet that I wanted as a "do over" since I hated my first one. I told them a budget of $100, and they made it perfect! It looked just like the picture. Every woman who saw my flowers later that evening stopped to admire them! They lasted for a week!
Dh bought the gold Elvis glasses being sold in the chapel lobby. Elvis walked me down the aisle and then did our vows and sang. It was a HOOT! He was very funny and we all had a good time. I gave dh a new wedding band and Elvis pointed out that I was putting it on the wrong hand! oops!
All and all, lots of fun and worth every penny! It was longer than my first wedding! They took loads of pictures which I ordered a few.
After the wedding, we had dinner at the Eiffel tower restaurant, which was lovely. We sat in the bar for 1.5 hrs. (made reservations for too late) but enjoyed drinks and the views. Dinner was good, but after all the drinks, we were starving, and I didn't linger over my steak.
Other things we did: Phantom (good, but too slow for me!) Mystere, (still great).
Dinners:
Mesa Grill was Great!!
Rum Jungle is such a rip off, food was not good and they are always trying to hustle you. I will never go back.
Social House at Treasure Island: Great!
It's new and very cool interiors. We had a pre-show snack of sushi.
Sensi at Bellagio: Very good!! Again, great interiors and ambiance.
Border Grill at Mandalay Bay: Great lunch! I wish it was closer to the other restaurants, it's by the pool but pretty remote. The food was wonderful!
Walked down to Wynn before "Mystere" for a look around and had a drink at the Parasol bar. Very cool interiors and whimsical. Ok, I don't get the singing frog at the light show. I liked Wynn, and if the rate was good, would love to try it.
Last two nights we stayed at the Bellagio
and it didn't disappoint.
We ordered another lounge chair for the room so that we could both sit in front of the window and watch the fountains and the view. The rooms are beginning to show their age, and the TV is "old" compared to the new flat screens. What, no plasma in the bathroom??! Ha. Overall, it is still a wonderful hotel.
We spent one afternoon at the pool at the Bellagio and it was VERY crowded. It was the Friday before Memorial day weekend. The pool area there is tight. And of course, not much shade. I prefer the pool area at Mandalay bay.
We took a taxi down to Fremont street to see the "Fremont Experience". It was really amazing! We didn't stay down there long, not to sound like a snob, but it was Friday night and there were a lot of drunk people there. I didn't feel good, and was so relieved to be back at the Bellagio! Don't bash me because I like nice places! LOL
Our last meal in Vegas:
I ordered breakfast to the room, and we sat at the table in front of the window and looked out at the lake! Wow! It was great.
Sorry my report jumped around!
Overall, a wonderful way to celebrate 20 years of marriage! Lots of relaxing, dining and drinks! (and Elvis!)

Things that I won't do again in Vegas:
the Monorail, too pricy for the long walk to the station! Lesson learned again!
I thought that I was "on top" of being ripped off by a cabbie, but our ride from the airport to Mandalay, he went way around on the highway when there was little traffic. Cabbies think that you are naive!
Love to take an afternoon and shop at the Fashion show mall. Great stores, and the buyers have more 'hip' stuff than back home at the same stores.
The Best view of the trip:
At the top of THEhotel is a bar called, "FIX". We got in free since we were staying there. The view was fantastic! We sat up there along the glass which was open air and enjoyed the night with a cocktail. Lots of young beautiful people.
Hot people alert: Mandalay bay has the youngest beautiful people. Yeah, we are in our 40's but still feel 'young'...but not hot! Ha.
We love Vegas! And we gambled $1!

Thanks for this report. I saw your other post planning your 20th year celebration. Hubby and I are going to Vegas for our 25th wedding anniversary and I was thinking of surprising him, renewing our vows. Elvis would be a hoot! I'll check it out.

Oh, no, wait..You don't ask him.
I didn't ask him, I planned it for 6 months down to the second. I planned every bit of it! Then surprised him, he was so overwhelmed!
Sometimes it's good to be a woman and a planner.
Ya just got to go for it! He should be flattered that you want
to marry him all over again! My husband was on cloud 9! It was
really special and we giggled the whole time! It was fun, romantic and it said, "I would do it all over again, and I DID!"
Honestly, he treated me like a rock star the rest of the trip and told everyone we spoke to!
