Vacation rental near Central Park

Help!!
I'm looking for a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom with indoor pool vacation rental near Central Park. We plan to stay from Feb. 28th through March 6th. We are 2 adults with 3 children aged 7, 9 and 11. We do not want a hotel.

There are very few short-term apartment rentals that run like hotels (with linens, cleaning service, etc) in NYC and even fewer apartments that have indoor pools! You can try craigslist.com or a search of this site for apartment rentals or something like that.

I think your best bet is a hotel with a gym that has an indoor pool.

There is a company called Oakwood Corporate Apartments which rents apartments for short-terms. They have several properties in Manhattan, including one on the upper east side which has a lap pool. The website is oakwood.com, or call 800.259.6914 . The site for the Upper East Side location is http://www.oakwood.com/oakwood/usmap.../eastside2.htm

I do not know this property, but am generally familiar with Oakwood in other parts of the world. They run good properties. You might search here for others who may have stayed in their apartments.

Craigslist.org is a web site that has made tremendous inroads into sublets in NY and other cities. They have helped to eradicate the horrendous sublet fees that are charged by realtors who handle sublets. Their home page is for San Francisco, but you can pick your city (NY) from the list on the side. Then go to sublets.

The other list I know about is Aprilslist -- but I'm unable to bring it up under either a .com or a .org.

You can post on this board that you're looking for a sublet, and you can browse through the posts of sublets already posted. The list changes everyday -- I believe each post is up for one week from the day it is first posted.

Good luck.

Just checked out the Oakwood apartments - was curious since I had never heard of this type of service in New York. The rates are very reasonable - only around $250 per night for a 2-bedroom apartment - but unfortunately the minimum rental is 30 days.

I'm afraid that other sublets would be similar - people usually don't want to sublease for only a few days. A hotel is probably the only realistic option.

Le Parker Meridian has a pool and I think they have two bedroom accommodations.

Pools are scarce in Manhattan. Your best bet would be a two bedroom sublet with a NYC Atletic Club or similar health club with an indoor pool nearby.

Cicerone, I bet the appartment with a lap pool has a minimum age requirement to keep children out of the pool. Wouldn't you think?

Thanks everyone!

I simply typed NYC vacation rentals and came up with tons of places. I've found a place that has an indoor pool but it looks pretty small for 5 people. I think I should look for a rental in a high rise but that where the info becomes scarce.

Did you try vrbo.com - vaction rental by owner? But FYI - most NYC apartment buildings - co-ops and condos have restrictions on this type of sublet. And the other posters are right - there are usually one week or 30 day minimums on the places that do this.

Parker Meridian is a good idea - a two bedroom or two adjoining rooms would suit your needs, and the pool is very nice and kid friendly.

I have found a 1B-1B apartment (265$ per night) with Big Apple Lodgings. It's on West 57th and 8th avenue. I did check out the Parker Meridien but since we are 5 it costs a lot more. As a canadian I have to take the exchange rate into consideration. I already checked VRBO, IVP, Owner direct, etc.
Also, I typed in NYC hotels with swimming pool and came up with a list. There, most rooms took in only 2 people.
Can someone tell me what a NYSC is? I'm assuming it's a fitness facility but would like to know more.
I found a site called Big Apple greeters which seems nice. Any comments?

Thanks to everyone who posted.

57th and 8th is not a bad location, especially for tourists. It is near Carnegie Hall (at 7th Ave) and close to the park, short walk to theatre district, etc.

It is likely to be very loud, however, because 57th street is a major east-west thoroughfare.

NYSC is New York Sports Club. It is a major gym chain. I'm sure they have a website, but they have locations all over the city.

I've never used Big Apple Greeters, but others on this site have with good success. Do a search of that phrase on this site.

Richard, forgive me, but I fail to see how a 1 bedroom and 1 bath apt for $265 is any kind of bargain, let alone a good option for 5 people! You'd do much better with a suite hotel. Try looking at affinia.com-a group of suite hotels. Some have 2 bedrooms. Look for a swimming pool at a health club or give it up.

Oh and you should know that I doubt that NYSC would allow your children to use the pool.
