Vacation plans affected by Northeast blizzard

Has anybody's vacation plans been affected by the blizzard in the Northeast ? We were scheduled to fly to Bahamas on Monday. We didn't get travel insurance otherwise we would have cancel the whole trip (altho my daughter would have been very disappointed).

Woow, what a bummer.

Hopefully it will clear up so you can travel on your vacation.

You guys are really getting pounded this year with the snow.

I'm from Michigan, and really we've had minimal snow (which is kind of unusual).

I used to purchase travel insurance for just the reason you mentioned, until someone encouraged me to read the fine print and investigate what the insurance includes. As I understand it (and I may be mistaken), travel insurance won't cover weather/flight cancellations if the plane does not actually take off (if the flight is completely canceled due to weather). What it does cover is a case where the flight actually leaves but you as the passenger cannot make it to the airport due to inclement weather. If I'm wrong about this--someone please correct me!

I'm so sorry about your vacation! I truly sympathize! I'm due to travel to a warm-weather destination on 3/2/03 and am keeping my fingers crossed that I get there!

So what will happen Lauren? Is your trip just going to be shorter? They were saying something on the Today show this AM about Logan not getting back to normal before Friday!!

We have people stuck in our hotel (Tampa), but fortunately there's room as there are also scheduled arrivals who can't get here. Am sure the same is happening all across the country.

I was wondering this morning what is happening to people with Priceline reservations...those stuck somewhere and having to extend their stays, and also those who have reservations they won't be able to keep. Will rules be bent?

I was in the Berkshires during the January (96 I think) blizzard and it was so pretty as it happened, but then in a few days those parking lots started turning to slush, the banks of snow along the roads turned brown from sand and salt, and I remembered all over why I really don't want to go back there to live full time!!

Hope things return to normal soon and that you find yourself in the warm sun, sand, and surf by the weekend lauren.

The wife cancelled out of Hartford today. Fortunately she had a full-fare ticket and just got a refund.

Just an FYI about travel insurance, I bought (actually, my travel agent insisted I buy it) a policy from a company called Travel Impressions to cover a trip I recently took out of the country.

There was no fine print on this policy. It allowed me to cancel for ANY REASON up to two hours before my flight left with a full refund minus the $125 cost of the policy.

I was curious if this would actually be the case until I saw an article praising this company in Conde Nast Travel Magazine.
