utah slot canyons

Has anyone visited Antelope Canyon in Utah? Any recommendations about entry and hiring a local guide?

Antelope Slot Canyon is in Arizona. We just got back from a trip to this area and took the upper Antelope Slot Canyon Tour.

You have to have a guide to go on the tour of the Upper Antelope Canyon. We did a tour from Page, AZ but you can pull into the parking area just off Highway 98 about 5 minutes from Page, AZ and they Navajo's will drive you the three miles of sandy road and take you in. We chose Grand Circle Adventures because it was hot and they drive you in airconditions suburbans. Also, our group was small and we didn't bump into as many people as the large groups.

It's beautiful and well worth the couple of hours. I hope to put up some of my pictures on my website soon.

Hi,
just did a trip with Overland canyon tours, only 6 people on the trip.
They are located opposite the visitors center in Page or check out their web site. We were there 2 days ater a flash flood and now another 15ft of canyon walls are exposed, and trees are stuck in the narrow canyon. our guide was a little excited at the changes which have been made.

We were there on Aug. 8 and this is how it looked then:

To Angie:

I know the canyon errosion is about 4 feet per year but I find it really hard to believe 15 feet happened all at once. I would really like to know what day you were there. I couldn't find any stories in the local newspapers on this.

To Utahtea,
We did the tour 17th Aug, maybe there was a little exageration by our guide, but when you go to the end of the canyon and there is a very large sand dune it has now been cut in half and the water marks are visible only 3ft from the top of the canyon walls.
There are alot of exposed rocks on the canyon floor and some of the narrow parts of the canyon are now harder to walk thru.
Canyoneering in Arches and the visit to the slot canyon were the highlights of our trip, plus the little surprise trip to Horse Shoe bend outside Page.

Angie,

Thanks for getting back to me. I've seen flash floods in action! It's a powerful force.

If you are looking for an excellent guide, photographer and 4x4 driver all in one in the Page area would highly recommend Jackson Bridges 928-645-5451 or www.canyon-country.com/jackson. He can take you places the guide books don't know about.
