What hawksbill wrote is quite similar to my experience at Upper Antelope canyon 3-4 years ago.

I drove to the parking lot and paid a $6. parking fee. I then went to the little booth paid about $20. and waited for a truck to return from the canyon. There were about 5-6 others waiting.

I have a DSLR camera, brought a tripod with as well as a plastic bag to keep my camera in during the dusty 10-15 minute drive to the canyon.

I took the regular tour that has you in the canyon for about an hour. Our "guide" was a student. He was quite knowledgeable and pointed out several good spots for photographs.

None of the guides attempted to clear the canyon for photos. It was more everybody cooperating with each other. A few times when one person attempted to take a photo everybody else would yell to that one person in the way. It was more of a joke than anything.

The guides are not photographers. In my case since I have a DSLR, brought a tripod and know what I'm doing, I could ignore his instruction to use the highest ISO possible. I guess he's catering to the masses using point-and-shoot cameras.

I got a lot of very good shots.

There's no doubt if you want to see what Antelope canyon is famous for you should go when the sun is high in the sky. Then the sun is bouncing off the canyon walls and on the dust floating in the air. Amazing.

If there's no sun then it's just like any other slot canyon and nothing special.

I view Antelope Canyon and an attraction. Other than the bouncing ride there, it's a simple "walk in the park". Calling it a hike would be a stretch. It's a level canyon floor (though narrow) covered with sand. I'm not sure but it might even be wheelchair accessible. Not sure about that.

I've been to Willis Creek slot canyon just south of Cannonville near Bryce Canyon NP a couple of times. Driving there is a bit of an adventure, the hike is pretty easy and it's a real slot canyon.

I would never, every omit one of the above because I'd been to the other. In fact, I would not hesitate going back to either if my plans had me in the area of either.
