US Forum

I have posted a few times to the US Forum but have found that my requests have been overwhelmed by postings which are obviously promoting products, services etc.

Why is this and why is Fodors unable to sort out this problem?

If Fodors in the US is not able to sort things out is there an alternative site which you can recommend for serious requests?

I understand your frustration at all the ads on this forum.
Now that I have your attention can I interest you in a really fine set of encyclopedias?
No modern home is really complete without truly high quality set of these essential research tools.

SusieQQ - I would not rate TA as the most impartial forum even though they have improved a little when they have started to sell bookings through their site.

logandog - how about Treccani?

I'm talking about TA forums, not the destination pages.

IMHO some TA forums are particularly helpful, for example the NYC forum. It depends on which one you are using. Some are better than others.

TA also does a better job than Fodors in quickly getting rid of Spam.

I have seen one or two advertising posts a day which disappear very quickly. This must be an time of day issue, so perhaps you could adjust when you visit, and top your own threads if you see that they have fallen into obscurity?

In the early mornings here on the East Coast, the US forum is filled with ads. So much so that it is hard to read. Sometimes it takes a long time for them to be cleared.

It's the time frame, they get removed by late morning US time. I have no idea why Fodors can't control this as other websites do, that's a question you'd have to ask them.

I think you don't understand what Tripadvisors forums are, they are just like this one, any user can answer questions or pose them. No one was suggesting you use TA for whatever you think they are biased for, I have no idea, but perhaps you mean hotel ratings or something. Even there, I read them all the time and they are generally from typical users regardless of the hype you hear about how they are fake. Maybe some are, but I can tell most are regular reviews. But no one was suggesting those for a forum. The main thing I find annoying about TA is how they delete posts fairly quickly that they don't think are travel-related, even if they are related to places and info on those places and a travel forum is the logical place to ask them.

You got replies to your posts, though, so the ads aren't effecting that. I understand your irritation- I didn't realize how bad the problem is until I was in Europe and actually using the the forum then. Most people here are probably not seeing those ads much.

You've asked specific questions about airports and such, so I think you'd find the TA forums useful. I usually crosspost there because people are a little better about a wider range of information. So it's good for nitty gritty. Fodor's is usually better for overall itinerary and food.

I use both the TA forums (almost never look at the reviews) and Fodor's as well.
BY the time I log in to Fodor's forums about lunchtime in LA, most of the spam is gone. If I see one I click on the triangle marked "report abuse". For awhile it was not working but appears to be working again.

Check out Trippy - https://www.trippy.com/

They have a forum for questions, but in particular they have been helpful for me in planning a road trip (logical stops, comparing flying vs. driving, etc.)

I gather all those reviews I wrote for TA are considered unreliable and fake. I wonder sometimes why ANYONE bothers.

Dukey - one person made a minor comment about TA reliability and you have that reaction? Did the sensitivity meter get turned up to 100 this morning?

"I would not rate TA as the most impartial forum even though they have improved a little when they have started to sell bookings through their site."

That causes you to get sarcastic about the reviews you're written? Nobody said all reviews are unreliable and fake. My goodness.
