Update on Gracie's New Hobby

Short version --Have been painting my heart out. Bought a used hybrid bicycle and two used electric scooters.
I have attended about four Paint Your Art Out (PYAO) sessions at our local Visual Arts Center. So far, I have painted (acrylic) a Butterfly, abstract flowers, a flamingo, and a starry beach (take off on "Starry Starry Night." I enjoy the classes, but they are just for fun and offer little insturction. I paint every night at home and have created about four paintings on my own. It is very relaxing, but also frustrating, as I really need lessons on so many things - proportion, perspective, mixing, blending, layering, drawing, etc. I have checked out some library books on art and plan to look for some art classes where they teachthe fundamentals.. I realize I don't have much talent, and I don't know what I will do with these paintings. I may be like the crazy old ladies who have dozens and dozens of cats taking over their homes.

I bought the used bike and scooters on craigslist. The bike's tires need air, so I have not ridden it yet. I have ridden the scooter standing up, but I want to get a seat. ( I had a scooter with a seat a few months back, but sold it for half of what I paind to a friend whose DL is suspended..)

Take painting lessons in a class or privately. You will not regret it, gracie.

I love those painting "classes" too! Bring food, wine and friend and leave at the end of the evening with a "masterpiece". They do tend to pile up...but I just switch them around every so often, along with "real" art. They make me smils. Kudos to you for getting out and trying new things! We have an arts center nearby that offers great classes, including painting and pottery. I took pottery classes several years ago and the relaxation was amazing. Enjoy expressing your creative side!

Take some lessons and keep enjoying yourself. You don't have to be a great artist. You might want to try different teachers just to learn different things. Some of the paint and brush manufacturers have free project ideas and instructions on their websites. You can also try looking around YouTube for some different technique demonstrations.

This is great you are painting! And don't try to judge yourself on how much talent you have - just enjoy the process.
