Go to www.disboards.com and scroll down to the Universal Forums. There is a frequent poster on there who actually conducts the tours.
You could also just get a room at one of the on site hotels. It may be less expensive than the VIP tour depending on the number of people in your party. You just show your room key at the attractions and go right to the express entrance.

Hi Marko,
I haven't done the VIP tour, but I have tickets for the end of June with the VIP tour for me and my Goddaughter. I have a back injury, so I liked the idea of not having to stand in line more than 15 minutes for a ride, you get reserved seats for all the shows, and apparently you get to see more of the studio area then the general public. Not a lot of difference between the "front of the line" or the "VIP" tickets. They mentioned a lounge was available. Found out it's not available all day, just for the few minutes before your tour starts.
If you do order tickets, buy them now. (either by phone or online) The VIP is limited to 12 people a day. And, if you get the other tickets, you will avoid standing in line for an hour to purchase tickets when you get there.
I didn't see a lot of difference between the VIP and Front of the Line tickets....I just went with VIP because of my back injury. Good luck with your decision and have fun!
Also, I should let you know, another poster tipped me off to this.....there is a subway stop very close (within a block) from U.Studios. You can leave the park and go check out the stars in the sidewalk at Hollywood and Highland. Click on my user name and you will see the post where the fodorite gave me the detailed advice. Thought it was a great idea, sightsee and not have to move the car!
Have fun!!!

My 17 year old Goddaughter and I did the VIP tour at Universal in LA last week. (Not sure when you were going) But, without a doubt it's the only way to go! Not only do you breeze past the people standing in line 1-2 hours for a ride and get on immediately, but you also get reserved seats for all the attractions. You have a guide with you for the day, who helps with everything you could ever need. Plus, you get an extended tram tour with special perks. I heard of one tour that got off and had pictures inside the Bates Motel from Psycho in the shower! My daughter's favourite movie is Jurassic Park, and our driver stopped the tram to get out and take her picture next to the set of the actual cars from the movie. You wind up with an incredible tour, and get to go on every ride with the best seats in the house. Then, after the guide leaves (after 6 hours) you can still stay and enjoy the park until it closes and still use your VIP priviledges to get first in line at all the rides. I highly recommend it! I wouldn't go any other way. It was completely worth the money!

Hi Marko!
Si! Andiamo means "Let's Go" in Italian! Molto Bene!
We did the group VIP tour, but it's limited to about 12 people. We only had 9 in our group. Since you are going at a time other than "summer", you may even have less in your "group".
I'm limited on funds, but if I were to do Universal again, I would definitely pay the money for the VIP tour. It made the day completely fun, we got to see almost everything, not to mention the extras on the tram tour, and our guide was amazing. (I wasn't feeling well, I have a back injury, and our guide went out of his way to help me get some advil!)
It was great not to stand in long lines for rides, and be able to walk right in and go on a ride. Also, the best seats for every ride/experience were reserved for us....
So, if you can swing it.....Go for it!
Have a fantastic time! Your kids will be talking about it for days, weeks, months to come!!!!

Ciao Marko!
Great decision on the VIP tour. I promise, you won't regret it! Be sure to post back after your trip!
I have a little secret.....you will enjoy the VIP tour as much as your kids!!!!! (But don't let them know....let them think they owe you one! An extra car washing, a few more chores, etc!
And, I'm certain you will say your share of "andiamo regazzi!"
Have a great time! It's been over a week, and my goddaughter is still raving about it constantly!!!! The funny thing is, I'm still having great memories of it as well! There's enough for the older ones (I'm 40), like the psycho house and Bates motel, Jaws, etc. and for the newbies, Shrek, (which I loved!), Terminator, etc. So, I'm sure you will all have a great time! You will not regret the VIP tickets, esp. when you pass the long, long lines of people waiting for a ride, and you are escorted through to not only the front of the line, but the best seats as well!
Have fun!!

Marko,
Tough call, normally I would say avoid weekends, however, the 31st will be New Years Eve. I found the people at the VIP phone line I called to be very helpful. Perhaps you might want to ask them which would be a better choice?
You will not regret the VIP tour. You are with the guide for 6 hours. When you arrive in the am, they will escort you to a private "guest VIP room" where there will be tons of bagels, pastries, coffee, etc. and bottles of water (grab some to take with you, they encourage it) Once the guide leaves, you can stay until the park closes if you wish! Unfortunately, my back was killing me, and we had to leave after the 6 hours. You will still have your VIP privilidges, so even when the guard leaves, you can still go on the rides and go right to the front.
I promise, you will have a great time! And, tell your kids they owe me one for talking you into this!
Please post back after you go....maybe put "andiamo" in the post name so I don't miss it!
Have a great time!!!

Marko,
You won't regret it, and your kids will be forever (well, at least for a few days!..but isn't that forever in a kid's mind?) be grateful! You will have a fantastic time. I keep thinking about our experience there, and even on limited funds, there is no way I would do anything BUT the VIP tour. It was so worth it!!!
My goddaughter went home to Slovakia, and when we email, she is still talking about how much she LOVED Universal! In fact, her exact words were, "I want to live at Universal!"
I'm convinced that we saw 90% more of Universal Studios than the people with regular tickets saw. Not having to stand in long lines, having the best seats reserved for you, and even having a guide with you for 6 hours who plans your day efficiently, is so worth it!
Note: I didn't know this....but go a little earlier than your appointment...you can relax in their VIP lounge, and they have tons of coffee, pastries, bagels, etc. while you watch Univeral Movies on a HiDef screen. We crammed in a quick breakfast on the road there, only to find they had such wonderful food awaiting us!
Please post back after your trip....I know you'll have a great time!
