UNITED TO HAWAII-Anyone getting nervous?
Is anyone else holding tickets on United for Hawaii? We're scheduled to fly Sept.22 from O'Hare. The more we hear on the news about their financial struggles, the more nervous we get! We'd booked a package through Expedeia...flight, car and hotel. I just hope they can stay afloat a little longer.
I wonder if we should come up with a back-up plan for vacation?????

Some articles say they would probably make the move by the end of the year. I sure hope they can hold out by then. Once they file and begin restructuring, that's when the flights begin getting cut. We have 2 other flights coordinating with the Hawaii flight. And of course, all is already paid for.

Debbie,
I wouldn't be overly concerned.
If UAL files chap 11, it may cut some flights.
But you are flying out of Chicago, one of their hubs, so I would expect your flight to stay. Other flights(even previous non-stops) may be routed through Chicago. Even if they cancel your flight, they wil just reroute you.
I too am holding UAL tickets for September(not to Hawaii) and I'm not worried. I used FF miles to upgrade and I just don't want to lose the upgrade.

Debbie, don't worry about it. There is no way United is going down, imo. We have first class seats for May '03 to Kauai and haven't given it a thought. BK is a way for United to get concessions out of the pilots, the flight attendants and the machinists/ramp workers unions. Relax and look forward to your trip.

What is wrong with everyone? They are one of the largest airlines in the WORLD! Even if they do file Chapter 11, it is to restructure the debt. They will keep flying. And to the person with the free voucher, it will still be good if they file Chapter 11.

according to Dow Jone Business News
Dow Jones Business News reports that a bankruptcy court Monday authorized US Airways Group Inc. to pay its employees' pre-petition wages and benefits during a hearing on the carrier's first-day motions.
Judge Robert G. Mayer of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Alexandria, Va., signed an order approving those payments at the hearing.
The article notes that US Airways, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection late Sunday, also won court approval to honor its customers' pre-petition tickets and frequent-flier miles.
