Unique & off the beaten path accomodations for Nature Lovers

My boyfriend and I are going to Oahu in April. We want to stay in unique hotels... a yurt, a beach hut, a treehouse, an eco resort, surf camp... something off the beaten path. We love nature and would like to stay away from hotels. We'll try anything! Do you have any suggestions of really cool places to stay?

hmmm... I'll be interested to see the replies. I love Oahu but can't think I've heard about anything like your request.

The closest I can come up with is I've seen where you can rent VW vans to camp/tour in. And I know up on North Shore there are some funky bungalow rentals available.

Hopefully others will chime in with some brilliant ideas!

If you make it to the Big Island also check out Skye Peterson's place, called Volcano Treehouse:

All are available along the Road to Hana on Maui. Also, Haiku on Maui.

Thanks everyone! I am not in Hawaii long enough to be traveling out of Oahu but I've been seeing a lot of cool places to stay in Maui and The Big Island.

I did talk to Skye. I believe he has some interesting places in Oahu as well but he's completely booked.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

We sometimes fly into HNL, stay within the airport security, hop a flight to another island; same on return. You can do this with carry-on only. If all flights are on one ticket you can through check luggage.
