U.S. Mint-Washington

The US Mint website says there is no production facility in Washington, DC. But I remember going on a tour there and seeing the money made. I think it was 12 years ago. Did they stop the presses there?

Sorry, I found the answer. It's called the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) in Washington. I still don't get the difference in why it's not called the US Mint. They do print money there.

The mint is where coinage is issued - not paper money. That's why they say there's no mint in DC.

The US Mint is in Philly, close to Independence Mall area. They have tours that walk you along the production area on an elevated walkway with windows for you to look through. All 4 of the kids with us thought it was incredibly boring and I have to say... I thought it was a bit dull as well and I love manufacturing facility tours.
