I learned alot from looking at the map link on that website. It is very well done, showing where the danger is coming from, as well as number of deaths for each location on Kauai...not surprising that almost all victims are visitors.

Hi Joan,

In some iteration of the Hawaiian language, Pila translates as Bill. My mother gave me a coconut coffee mug with Bill written on one side and pila wriiten on the other from one of her trips to the islands. I thought it would be fun to change my name to pila on the Hawaiian threads.

aloha!

What a great map! I wish there was one for all the islands. Really puts things in perspective.

No, it really doesn't put it in perspective. How many noticed that those numbers are over a 29 year period? Or did you think that was one year?

How many people died in car accidents in Hawaii during the same time period?

I bet just as many, if not more, people have died in the ocean off California over that same time period.

Now, when were the "Revealed" books first printed? Hard to believe isn't it, that people drowned in the ocean before these dreadful books were even written.

I think it is helpful. The question is not about death by car accidents, it is about drowning at beaches that may or may not be safe and/or have adequate warning signs.

Great website & map. It will definitely make me think more about safety when I'm in Hawaii next year.
