IMO..you tip as you feel the service warrants. The level of the place is irrelevant. I say the latter for the reason that just because you are IN a certain level of establishment doesn't necessarily guarantee a certain level of service. (As someone who used to wait tables and schlep bags in such places I can assure you they want you to FEEL you should tip regardless of the service level..or perhaps intimidate you is an (honestly) better word.

Have a great trip.

JudyC, Where do you live?

I tip in Hawaii the same as I would at home. It does not have to do with the level of a place you stay in my opinion. 15-20% in restaurants, $2-3 per day per person for the hotel room maid, a couple dollars on top of the fare for taxi drivers or shuttle service if they handle your luggage, like that.

Nothing special about Hawaii imo (unless you are coming from Australia, UK, or Europe where your home practices are different the the U.S.).

$5-10 to bellperson bringing you to your room and taking the time to give you the lay of the land and fill your icebucket.

$5 a day to housekeeping $2 for turndown and towel replenish

$1-2 to valet when retrieving car

$1-2 to pool attendent if they wrap your lounge chairs in towels for you, and set you up with extrav towels. Nothing if they just hand you towels.

Always check the bill if you get roomservice, as the tip is often included. No need to tip twice.

Have fun
