FYI - it's not a trick. However, money talks and it's always worth the try. What's the worst that could happen?

Co-workers of mine were FIRED for taking the "bribe" and depriving the hotel of the upgrade revenue. That's the worst that could happen. Depends on how the individual hotel and its managers view such things.

I think the worst that could happen would be when the person shoves the money back at you and tells you while looking down his nose at you that there is no upgrade and all the people in the line behind you snicker.

We have been upgraded numerous times, by asking for it. No bribes.

same thing, andy.
Have you ever just asked for an upgrade? We go to Las Vegas every year..never had to resort to offering money.
Why don't you try calling ahead and asking, then if that doesn't work, try the money. Tell them it is an anniversary surprise though, that always works!
We celebrate birthdays or anniversaries in LV..we have been given free drinks at Circo, room upgrades, a spa day for me, with never any money being offered.
I hope it works for you Have fun!

I agree-we often get upgrades and/or extras just for asking - but nicely and with a sweet smile.

The $20 thing is too tacky. (Imagine how you would feel at your job if someone offered you $20 for a special favor - the first thing I woud do is move them to the end of the line.)
