Tucson to Albuquerque

I'll be driving from Tucson to Albuquerque at the end of April. Any suggestions on the route, attractions, and where to stay. I plan on taking a full two days. The only thing I have planned is the Acoma Pueblo.

Thanks in advance for any help you could offer.

In early May my husband and I are planning the same route, after visiting friends in Tucson. Ww would also welcome any advice local experts could share.

We'll continue on to Santa Fe, Taos and points north using suggestions from others on the US forum.

We made this trip two years ago (in opposite direction). We opted for an overnight stay in Las Cruces. The old town, the Mesilla, is a charming little spot with a good Mexican restaurant in a historic building (La Posta in 1840's Historic Old Butterfield Stage Building).

We also used Las Cruces as a base for a sidetrip to White Sands which was very memorable.

The interstate between Tucson and Las Cruces is quite scenic. Directly at I-10, there is a cute ghost town named Steins, just right after the AZ-NM borderline. It makes a good stop for a quarter of an hour or so.

Thanks for the suggestions and I hadn't even thought about White Sands.

If you want to go to White Sands, then going to Albuquerque via Las Cruces would be the way to go.

Otherwise, I'd suggest going through Silver City and the "mountains" which offer a different type of scenery.

Interesting advice about the options. I traveled through Las Cruces and White Sands about three years ago. So, I'm looking for a new route. The suggestion to go through Silver City, New Mexico is intriguing. It is a bit longer than the path through the Arizona mountains that I was considering. The Arizona path goes through Globe and Show Low. No idea if Arizona or New Mexico offers the better scenery on this trip.
