Am planning trip over the Christmas holiday to Key West for our family celebrating upcoming high school graduation and college graduation. Kids ages 18, 20, 22. Any suggestions on accommodations? Or should we head to Hawk's Cay?

It will be very expensive over Christmas just a FYI. I would head to Key West with kids at that age. Look at the Hyatt or one of the many B&Bs. Keywest.com should be able to help.

Check out the Ocean Key house...They may even have a suite that would handle your gang... that would also put you right in the center of all the action at the foot of Duval St.... also just down the street is the newly remodeled Crowne Plaza... you should also consider a condo rental, cottages, but stay away from the B&B's, they are not active enough for that age group...

The town is full of great B&B's! I think it would be a good choice for that age group. I like the Conch House. It is really cute. Most seem to be very centrally located and close to all of the fun things to do. Check out the Galleon Hotel too. I think they have large units.

OK Curious... you got me! I was screening my response with the "not active enough" reply to protect the B&B guests from the potential rowdism of the celebrating 18-22 year old graduates. I withdraw the comment.

I had a bad experience at a B&B on an anniversary trip to KW that was destroyed by a group of loud, obnoxious College kids who should never have stayed in the more serene B&B setting.

If the Decker kids plan on whooping it up, they would be better off in the party setting of the Ocean Key or Crowne Plaza. If they plan on coming in before the door-lockdown, reading by the pool, and quiet relaxation, then the B&B would be perfect...

What is a door lock-down? Do B and B's have rules?

All hotels and B&B's have rules. You would have to check with the individual place itself. Lock down is nothing more than locking the main door that leads to the house or property so people besides the guests do not wander inside while the office is closed. As a guest most B&B's will issue a key for this if you are out late.

While you are checking out places also look at the Merlinn Inn and Simonton Court. They are nicely located and usually pretty reasonable. Whatever you choose besure it is located in Old Town and not New Town and you will be very close to all of the attractions, bars, and restaurants.
