Trip Report - Kauai, Oahu, Hawaii

Thanks to everyone who helped me plan my trip to Hawaii. I can't stress enough to use the various trip websites (Travelocity, Orbitz, Expedia, etc.) to get good deals. By tracking the Atlanta to Honolulu route for six months, I was able to get tickets for $350 each.

I also have used www.vrbo.com for eight times, and I have been very pleased each time. As numerous people have suggested, it is important to contact the owner and asks lots of questions for successful rentals.

We spent three days on Kauai, two on Oahu, and four on Hawaii. Please let me know if I can answer any questions.

More details and pictures are at: www.mikehoneycutt.com

Thanks again.

Hello - Based on your trip, would you say 3 days on Kauai was too short, too long, or just right?

Unless this is going to be a one time shot and you really want to see as much as possible, 3 days in too short for any of the islands. If you're active and like to hike/Kayak/bike ride, 3 *WEEKS* in Kauai is not enough.

We were there for 8 days and it definitely wasn't enough.

I think it depends on how you vacation. In our case, we felt three days was enough to see the major (and a few minor) sites. This meant we were on the go quite a bit and there wasn't much time for laying by the pool, visiting a different resturant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, exploring the smaller towns, etc.

As K2Rider mentioned, you can stay busy for weeks on most of the islands, depending on what you like to do.

You might search this board for Kauai trip reports (especially the postings by our on-island expert, auntiemaria) and see who likes to vacation the same way you do.
