Trip Help!

Hi,

I am trying to plan a trip in a few weeks. It would be my husband and I, and we roughly have from Thursday morning- Sunday morning. We live in Columbus, Ohio and want to drive out of state. Which places are good trip destinations within a 6 hour drive? We like history and natural sights.

Any assistance you can provide will be beneficial. We originally had longer and I had a trip planned to drive the outerbanks, but due to an issue with my husbands job we don't have the time to do that anymore.

Thanks!

6 1/2 hours puts you at the edge of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. I did a similar trip starting out from Springfield/Dayton area once. Enjoyed the park a lot.

You didn't mention a budget. If you can afford it head for the Greenbrier. http://www.greenbrier.com/HomePage-S...The-Greenbrier

Again, if your budget allows check out Blackberry Farm, not far from Knoxville.

Charlottesville, VA, if you haven't visited Monticello, Ash Lawn, or Montpelier. You pass through beautiful mountains getting there, and it is set in the horse country amidst a lot of wineries. There are luxury restaurants and the Gordonsville BBQ in Gordonsville; take your choice. You can ride on the a Skyline Drive, visit the Shenandoah Valley, even drive a loop so you don't have to backtrack on the way home.

I don't much like the city of Charlottesvile -- too many students, too much traffic, too little parking -- but the area is fantastic, and the city is worth a visit.

You could go to Winston Salem NC in about 6 hours and see Old Salem. I don't think the AAA baseball season will have started yet, but maybe so. Good restaurants.
Asheville also--in about the same time. Lots to do and enjoy like Biltmore House, good restaurants and artsy downtown.

About Blackberry Farm--sad news that the young (39) owner/developer/chef was killed in a skiing accident a couple of weeks ago.
