Traveling through Maine this weekend

Looking for interesting places to stop/explore/eat. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Our travels will take us on Rte 2 East, to the Rte 95 North all the way to Bangor.

Thanks!

Where are you coming from? What is your destination? If you are going all the way to Bangor, drive 45 minutes to Ellsworth/Trenton/Bar Harbor.

Coming from northern VT, going to St Andrews in Canada. We figure it is about an 8 hour trip that we are looking to do in 1 day, so we're not looking to get off course for too long. I believe we will be on Rte 2 for a long time and then we will pick up 95 in Newport.

Thanks!

Butler's in Farmington is a good restaurant. The Farmington Diner is an "experience", not great food but certainly the old-fashioned "roadside diner" experience with everything-under-the-sun on the menu.

Frederick's on Route 2 in Norridgewock is a quick-burger stop with some good homemade ice cream.

The best restaurant in Maine (dinner only) the beautiful Arrrows in ogunquit
reservations a must, arrive early to tour their organic garden where they grow alot of the food. For lunch, The Hurricane(reservation a must if they still have jazz on sundays)

When you go past Bethel you will be on rt2&rt 26 at Newery take a five mile detour up rt. 26 look for a small sign on right for step falls.park in the small lot and hike about a 1/4 mile to the falls. bathing suit is optional but a pair of worn out cut off jeans comes in handy for riding the falls. If you miss this fall there is screw auger falls up the road apiece and is also worth a stop.

Closer to the Bangor area-(It think it is in Newport??)- is a truck stop (southbound side) called Dysart's.
It is very well known place for breakfast.. It is worth the trip.. Sounds silly but, you said you were looking for interesting places to eat and the people watching alone is worth the trip

Dysarts is great. We enjoyed the transporation museum in Bangor but it helps to have an old guy (my fil) with you to explain all the old trucks and farm and logging implements. If you need some craft/tole painting supplies, stop at Crafty Ideas on Rt 2 in Mercer/Norridgewock.
