Best things to do in LA?

Depending on when you're planning on coming to L.A., there's plenty of sporting events: Dodgers & Angels assuming they don't strike & you're coming soon, Bruin & Trojan (hiss) football seasons are coming up, horse racing at either Hollywood Park or Santa Anita, & of course Lakers & Clippers basketball. The bars/clubs on Sunset Blvd. are pretty hip & popular. If you want more casual bars, I'd suggest the Hermosa Beach pier. Check out laweekly.com for info on what's going on in the city or pick one up while you're here. It's free.

I'd suggest you take in some music on one of the clubs on the Sunset Strip on a weekend, like the Whisky. It's a real scene....
I would not suggest you attend the taping of any TV comedy. It takes 3 to 4 hours to tape that 22 minutes of comedy, and they do each scene about three times. It's boring. (Trust me, I've had to watch the raw footage many times.)
A much better choice would be The Tonight Show, since it's "live on tape," and the whole thing proceeds at a snappy pace and is over in an hour. They often have a good band, too.... Call the NBC operator at 818-840-4444 and ask for Guest Relations. They'll be able to answer your questions and prolly hook you up with a schedule so you can reserve a date.

Ditto on the info about TV tickets. Most anything other than the Tonight Show takes up a day. Take a drive down Sunset Blvd. at night - no shortage of clubs and nightlife from the ultra hipster crowds to just great local music spots. Also, make sure you make it to the beach - you can kick back and watch the surf while enjoying a cocktail at the ever-popular Gladstones in Malibu or for a more funky-LA feel, stroll Venice Beach (plenty of boardwalk pubs, etc). Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica is always good for dinner and people watching (whether this locale seems 'unusual' will really depend on where you're coming from/what you're used to). There's a big sports bar there too. Many bars and restaurants surround this area also. Can't help you with sports outside of a good ol' Dodgers game or look into what's scheduled at the Staples Center - quite a venue to behold. Have fun!
