I can help you with some generalized suggestions:
Put Yellowstone, Tetons and Glacier National Parks on your northern westbound portion.
A good stopping point between Seattle and SF is Ashland, Oregon which is one of my favorite gems in Oregon. Portland is worth some time as it is known for its beautiful geography, food options and outdoor lifestyle.
While in the Bay Area, you could add sidetrips to Monterey/Carmel on Hwy 1, Napa and redwoods; all of which are great trips on their own. You could go from SF to Reno via Yosemite NP which if you have never been, you definitely should go.
From Reno to Denver, you could go through southern Utah entering Colorado in its southwest corner, then road tripping through Durango, Silverton, up to Colorado Springs and onto Denver.
Your options are limitless if your time and budget are also.

Time of year really matters a lot. If you go in late fall throuhg early speing you are likely to run into a lof of snow which can considerably limit what you can do, where you can go (passes and roads clse) and how long it takes to get anywhere. Assuming you drive.
If you are jumping via short flights - ditto.
