Okay, I need to do more research as to where to go... I was just thinking whether it would take more than a day to get there, which would eat up precious vacation time... Otherwise, would consider it for our road trip.

Yes it will take more than a day. SF to Grand Junction at the west end of CO via US50 is about 960 miles.

Okay, thanks, then it's probably worth it only if we go on a two-week road trip versus one week.

You could probably do that in one long day. The other thing to consider is how close things are once you are in the state you want to see--but then there is the LONG drive back.
