Travel to Your Local Shelter: Spread Your Wealth
....or Community Kitchen or such.
Here's a gentle reminder that it's time to
share your abundance and pack up a bag
of food and drop it by for those in need.
Spend some time and help dish up a meal
or just talk with folks.
You might find yoou have great gifts
to give!

I give to the local animal shelters every year and I have a certain amount deducted from my credit card each month for WSPA-World Society to Protect Animals. They go into places around the world where few will go and try to change the culture of how animals are treated based on superstition, religion, etc. They help change viewpoints by educating people, not by intimidation or anger. They do a fabulous job.
Giving all year makes it part of your everyday life. I used to only contribute at Xmas, but then I thought that was ridiculous because these charities need $$ all year long.

And/or ask at least three people to your own dinner. Individuals or groups that may be alone or would not have a special dinner to attend in company. They can only say no thank you.
You would be surprised at the number of people who will take you up on it. Charity begins at home.

Monday our church bagged up and gave away boxes of food to 220 families. They give a week's worth of food and a turkey to all. All of us who worked that day always feel blessed to be able to help one another. Even some who were receiving baskets came and helped out.
Don't forget to help out the Salvation Army and Red Cross...they are still helping out our hurricane victims here in Florida and their resources are very low this holiday season.

Great reminder razzledazzle. When I lived in the US I always spent all of Thanksgiving day serving food in homeless shelters, even though my mom wasn't thrilled that I was the only one missing at our family dinner each year. I miss being able to give back in that way since living where I do now. Helping those less fortunate is one of the best ways that we can give thanks for what we have.

Our local supermarket has a stack of $5 certificates at the checkout. You can toss them in with your groceries, and they donate whichever amount you specify to the food bank. I think it's a great idea.
