Travel times, etc. in the Southwest
Just a reminder that the search function on Fodors, while not perfect, can answer most of the basic questions posed by travellers. Inevitably, many of the same questions pop up every year, such as how long does it take to get from point A to point B, what's the best route and what is there to see along the way?
Since I tend to follow threads pertaining to the Southwest because I enjoy visiting that area, I notice many similar questions pertaining to this area. There are a number of different attractions, and believe me, they have all been discussed on Fodors. I believe it would be most helpful for newcomers to Fodors and the area to search for travel times and routes/itineraries before posting a new thread asking how long it takes to drive from Las Vegas or Phoenix to the Grand Canyon, what's the best place to stay, etc.
As I've said a number of times, posting a new thread about an upcoming trip will get you some answers from a few people who happen to be active on Fodors right now, but taking the time to search the forums and read other threads/trip reports will get you many more answers and perspectives from many more people over several years. Just remember, the search function is your friend.

The "how long does it take" is easily ansed by mapquest. That's the first thing I did when planning my road trip to TX. Then I searched the existing posts on Fodors and other boards. Followed that checking, by posting a couple of new ones.

LOL. No, just trying to save your poor fingers from answering the mileage and routing stuff over and over so you (and everyone else) don't wear their fingers to little nubs. We have to save them for the expert questions.

I'm not an expert, but I play one on Fodors.
I'm going to Zion/Bryce and elsewhere in May. Flying out the 19th with an overnight in Snow Canyon SP, then 3-4 days backpacking/hiking in Zion before heading to Bryce for 2-3 days. From there, my plans are somewhat weather dependent. I really want to go to Great Basin NP, but that'll depend on snow conditions. I'd also like to do an overnight hike near Cedar Breaks, but that also depends on weather. If those fall through, I will probably go through Escalante and attempt a trip to the white hoodoos (maybe I shouldn't post that out loud so everyone else doesn't find out about them).

I'll be heading south in early spring as usual - probably Escalante area for hiking this time.
Then to some areas that are new to me in CO in June, and the WA St. lavender fields and Vancouver Island in August.

No expert here, but I have been to the southwest and have a great memory. :^)
We're flying to Las Vegas in March with our 2 grown children and their significant others, thence to the Grand Canyon and on to Zion before getting back to Las Vegas to fly homeward. It will be a quick trip mostly to give the kids a hint of what is there so they can make their own plans later. If time and weather allows, we might get a side trip up to Bryce Canyon.
