Transport from SFO Airport to Sonoma

I'm planning a trip to Sonoma wine country, staying at the Sonoma Valley Inn. I won't be renting a car, just want to stay in town and take the many tours out to wine country. I was wondering, is it possible to take a taxi from San Francisco airport to Sonoma, or do they not go that far out of the city limit?

Thank you!

Hello tonianyc, here is the public transportation for Sonoma from the SFO site..I have never used the airport bus but I have seen them many times at SFO and they look very clean and new so personally that is what I would use. Best regards and enjoy beautiful Sonoma wine country!http://www.flysfo.com/web/page/tofro...sp-serv/to-nb/

Since you are going to the town of Sonoma, you will want to use the Sonoma Airporter (don't use the Sonoma Airport Express because that takes you to cities in Sonoma County, but not to the town of Sonoma itself). Check to find out if you need cash for the trip. I think a taxi would be insanely expensive, so the airporter is your best bet. You can take a taxi from the airporter depot if necessary, but call first and see if they will stop at your destination; you can get the phone number from the web site: http://www.sonomaairporter.com/

Hi tonianyc, if you go to the website I posted for you and click on Taxis you will see that it shows a taxi ride from SFO to Sonoma is $212.00 (and of course a tip).

Be sure to have CASH for the Airporter. Unless they have changed, you need cash.

Hi again tonianyc, here is the website for the Sonoma Airporter.

The do take credit cards.
You do have to make reservations.

The website is: http://www.sonomaairporter.com/

These are the vehicles I have seen at SFO that look very good so I am sure you will be pleased with their service tonianyc.

"...I won't be renting a car, just want to stay in town and take the many tours out to wine country...."

tonianyc-I am curious as to the "many tours" that you are referring to - what tours ? of the wineries ? and how do you plan to get to those tours ? via limo ?

If you are on foot, then you will be limited to the few tasting rooms and wine shops around the plaza in Sonoma town, and maybe Sebastiani. Why do you not want to rent a car ?

I, also, am curious about your not renting a car. The last time I used the Sonoma Airporter I took a niece from the town of Sonoma to pick it up in Petaluma.

I gres up in Sonoma and she and I were visiting my mother.

Is everybody sure the Sonoma Airporter lands in the TOWN of Sonoma? I don't think so.

Reading the website I posted they state that they drop off passengers at their homes, hotels and B&B's. Lots of info on the website which should answer questions.

Hi razzle and jtrandolph, hope you are both enjoying our beautiful weather!!

Yes, it's as LI posted, they are two diffrent services-

www.airportexpressinc.com
This is the Sonoma County Airport Express. It is very nice bus which travels to/from SFO via Petaluma, then Rohnert Park, then Santa Rosa and then the Sonoma County airport, and back agin in reverse route. They also travel to OAK with the same stops except they stop in San Rafael as well. None of it's routes travels to the town of Sonoma.

http://www.sonomaairporter.com/
This is the Sonoma Airporter Shuttle-
I believe it's a large van. It travels
to/from the town of Sonoma and offers door to door service to/from SFO to homes, hotels, B&B's, etc. in the town of Sonoma, Glen Ellen, Kenwood and Oakmont. It does not go to any other towns in Sonoma County.
It also does not provide transport to OAK.

They are two distinctive services providing
transport services to very differnt places.

I now know more than I ever needed to
about airport transportation here in Sonoma COunty, LOL!

PS- Hi back at ya LI & jt !
