On Christmas Day the trains will be running much less often. And dragging all that stuff up and down stairs and along long passageways will take time. (Can each person carry their luggage and all their ski equipment up and downstairs easily in one trip?)
I keep remembering a cute little matue couple who had taken the advice to take the Air Train and subway to a hotel on the upper west side. They each had a wheelie and a carry-on - and couldn't get up or down the stairs with both pieces. So, they had to ask passersby to watch the luggage at the top while they went back down again to bring up the other piece. All the time blocking the way of commuters trying to get up/down the narrow stairs.
This system is fine if you have one bag you can tote and you're used to several flights of stairs. If not - it can be a major PIA.
