Nicole,
If you want some "real southern cooking", you're gonna have to venture inland and get away from the coast. The idea of the Biltmore House was good. I've lived in Georgia and South Carolina all my life and you definitely don't see the real south at Myrtle Beach. Make that a small part of your trip. It'll be worth it to see how different the Atlantic is from the Pacific. Charleston will be a great historic town. Plan to visit some of the gardens. I once saw a wedding there and it was like something out of a dream.

Save your tastebuds until you get inland and then stop at Cracker Barrel. Unless you're going to a true southerners' house for supper, Cracker Barrell is as good as it gets. Go there for breakfast and have bacon, eggs, grits, and biscuits. You can't beat that!

Have a great trip! The Biltmore House will be about a 6 hour trip from Myrtle Beach but seeing the mountains will be worth the drive. I don't know what time of year you're planning to come, but it's beautiful there in September-October (leaf season).
