Topsail Island, NC
HI,
Thinking about spending a week at Villa Capriani (north topsail)at the end of September with my huband and 2 kids (toddler and an infant). How's the temperature that time of year. Is it very rainy? The rates are so low then so I figure there must be a good reason for it! Also how's the beach in that area. Is it swimable?
Thanks!
Liz

September is a beautiful time to be on Topsail Island. My family and I have rented on Topsail in mid-September several times. The water temp will still be about eighty and the air temp will still range from eighty to the low-nineties. However, beware that September can be a big month for hurricanes for the Carolinas. Buy the rental insurance.

bes,
I do believe I can most likely help you on the subject of the Villa Capriani. After all My family ran the restaurant there for 11 years. We are no longer there, My brother & I bought a restaurant in Holly Ridge,nc Yogi's Off Island Grille. the Villa is with out doubt the most beautiful place on the Island. The weather will be still hot. The rates are low cause school has already started by then and the crowds die down. But watch out for the huricanes. It will be prime time for them. Our ocean will still be warm but check the rip tides to be on the safe side. But when you see the pools at the villa you might not want to go to the beach. They have three pools plus kiddy pool, one with water fall 2 hot tubs if you can catch them working. A restaurant
lounge ( which I heard was very pricey)the people there used to be nice & friendly don't know the new ones. But I am sure you will enjoy it. Just one more note. If you are renting from anyone else other than the villa make sure you have a personal ontact number for them. The Villa will close at 5pm with nobody at the front desk to help you.dd

just returned from a wonderful stay at villa capriani with friends and their children. the lodging was wonderful, pools and location couldn't have been better...however.......the restaurant at villa capriani was horrendous. we had reservations at 7pm showed up early, we were seated immediately, they took our drink orders promptly. Then came 'THE WAIT". The bread (1 piece per table member) was brought out in aprox. 15 minutes with a couple of weak excuses. Later, when our meal had still not arrived, we asked for more bread and were told they would have to bake it. We waited until after 8pm...still no food, 5 hungry children...were told it would be served in 7 minutes...we waited and once that time had passed, we got up to pay for 2 glasses of wine and one salad....the 'owner' yvonne stated that we would have to pay for the entire (unreceived) meal...needless to say we did not...others came up and commented that they too had waited over an hour, and were leaving...nuff said...lodging was incredible, resturaunt owner, service etc was not.

After Joe Paliotti died a couple years ago, Villa Capriani kicked his kids and Paliotti's restaurant to the curb and installed the new restaurant. We ate there once(the name Turtle comes to mind) and have never been back. The only good eating on the north end of the Topsail area is in Snead's Ferry.
Topsail has had a decline in good restaurants lately. II Beuachaine's is by far the best but Daddy Mac's is OK. Land speculation essentially ended Soundside and Latitude 34. So if you are wanting to start a new restaurant on Topsail Island, there is room for a good eating establishment.

Just spent a grand few days at Villa Capriani. The resort, pools, beach and grounds are Wonderful! However, the restaurant SUCKS! We were there over the 4th, and had reservations for 10. We arrived a few minutes early, were promptly seated, but then waited over an hour and 15 minutes and thru a few lame excuses....still NO FOOD!!!!! When we walked, Yvonne, who represented herself as the owner, was VERY rude! A member of our party went up to pay for the drinks we had consumed and was made to wait another 20 minutes! when he raised his voice to get ANYONE'S attention, she threatened to call the police! the 'owner' Yvonne and the waiter Steve were angry with us after THEY weren't able to plate a single entree after all that time! Sadly, it was getting late and all it would have taken to get us to stay would have been an apology for the slow service and maybe an appetizer to quell our hunger???? Everyone there needs to learn a lesson in customer service, other patrons had waited as long as us and walked also. Our experience at Villa Capriani otherwise was grand, it's a real shame the restaurant staff is so terrible.

The previous Capriaini restaurant was a family-run Italian/American Seafood combo that orignally started up as the Pirate's Den in Surf City in the 60s. the Pirate's Den burned down about 1994 and moved to Villa Capriani and renamed itself Paliotti's after the owner.
Paliotti's was reliable, friendly and offered quite a bit of choice of foods for the renters at Villa Capriani. Why Capriani could think that the current crowd running the restaurant could do it better is beyond me.
