To Myrtle Beach from Boston
What is the best way to fly from Boston to Myrtle Beach? I don't believe that there are any direct flights. My husband and I are bringing our 4 kids (4-12), next April vacation. We are staying at the Sheraton Brodway Plantation. Weve never been there and need to make travel arrangements. Thanks!

There are no direct flights from Boston. The only direct flights near you are from Newark. They are also inexpensive (about $130-150). Boston also has inexpensive flights but you'll have to switch planes which IMO is preferential to driving to NYC.

Usually from Boston you fly through Atlanta or Charlotte. I prefer the Charlotte connection as I have had better luck and planes are larger. Sometimes you can find direct flight from Providence or Hartford, just be wearly as they are usually on smaller airlines (ie Jet Express) and only have 1 flight a day so if flight canx can hurt a vacation.

Carolyn,
I just wanted to point out that in April the ocean water temperature will be pretty chilly--you have to be a member of the polar bear club to enjoy it. However, air temps are usually comfortable, especially later in April. If you have flexibility, late May (except for Memorial Day) and the first week of June are great times with respect to weather and avoiding huge summer crowds. One final point, unless you and your family are harley riders, check to make sure you're not going during bike week (generally Memorial Day)--not because the bikers present any problems, but simply because of the traffic.
Have a great time!

I'm assuming that you're planning to rent a car anyway -- it's nearly impossible to get around Myrtle Beach without one -- so you might check to see if a good flight is available to Wilmington, NC. It's not a bad drive -- maybe an hour-and-a-half, generally on four-lane U.S. 17. (And your 12-year-old might enjoy seeing where "Dawson's Creek" is filmed.)

AtTheBeach,
good point!
Also, even though this is an old thread, I should mention for whomever is interested our experiences with the Atlantic Beach Bike Fest.
The Harley Bike Week comes earlier in May (as Jen mentioned above). Then, around Memorial Day, the fury and decadence of the Atlantic Beach Bike Fest is unleashed in North Myrtle Beach. All I can say is, you had to be there to believe it. Public urination, non-stop street party, our whole condo complex (18 units) and parking lot were simply converted into a 24-hour a day war zone.
It got so bad, with people blocking the stairs and walkways, we had to escape to Wilmington for a night. All the locals absolutely hate this event, yet commerce triumphs over all.
The good news is, it's limited to about 5 days and then it's just a bad memory. The bad news is, it screws up one of the best holidays of the year, Memorial Day. Avoid at all costs!

There are 2 bike weeks (for this VERY old post that has been ressurected). Harley week may be as said--9th to 18th but then Black Biker Week is over Memorial Day week (week-end) whenever that is. Either week is to be avoided unless you are a biker.

In 1997 I flew to Myrtle Beach via USAirways. Actually the connection isn't bad at all. Charlotte is a very nice modern airport and if you're connecting flight is delayed, good chance to go get something to eat. The flight to MB is 40 minutes long and the plane was a jet plane not one of the small props.
