Does anyone know if buses run to and from Boston to Springfield (actually Indian Orchard)? I'm a Titanic buff, and I would dearly love to visit this museum.......I guess that's a price you pay for not having a car. I'll be up in Boston for a week starting May 17, and this would probably be the highlight (among many) of my trips.

FYI:There's actually a major Titanic exhibit traveling the US, now at the Maritime Center in Norwalk (about an hour outside NYC, 3 hours or so from Boston)--the only venue in New England

There is also a Titanic museum in Fall River, Mass. about 1 hour south of Boston.

I don't know how long that exhibit is at Norwalk, but as I don't live far from NYC, I will try to get there. I'd probably love the Fall River exhibit, but the one is Springfield/Indian Orchard is a museum inside the headquarters of the Titanic Historical society. If I can't get to that one, I'm sure going to do my best to go to Fall River.......

Peter Pan busways is probably the best way to get to Springfield, but Amtrak does run from Boston to Springfield too.

Fall River also features Battle Ship Cove (www.battleshipcove.com) with a variety of old vessels.

Linn, do you know if it's a long cab drive to Indian Orchard? If it's fairly short, I would prefer a cab. However, if it's a long drive, that will probably get too expensive.

Actually, if you're going to Indian Orchard from Boston by way of the MASS Pike (quickest, most direct route), Indian Orchard is at the north end of Springfield - right where the exit is, so it's actually closer than if you were going to downtown Springfield.

Why not go to mapquest.com and figure out the distance between the museum and the bus station? It might turn out to be cheaper and less hassle to just rent a car, if most of the route is out the Turnpike.

I know this is not what you asked about, but if you ever get the chance to go to Halifax, Nova Scotia, be sure to visit the Maritime Museum. It has an excellent Titantic exhibit which is permanent. Also, you have to visit the cemetary in Halifax where almost 200 victims of the sinking were buried. The tombstones are laid out in the formation of a ship. Halifax was the first port that bodies were brought to and where found baggage and personal belongings were catalogued. Interestingly enough, class counted in death as well as life. First class passengers bodies where placed in coffins, whereas lower class passengers where initially laid out on the dock in canvass bags.
