Natalie, if you're a single 20ish female, look no further than the CO resort towns where the guys out number the girls by over 3:1.

CO is an awesome place to live, but you pay for it. The cost of living is extremely high (driven by housing). A big change from WPB, FL (except we don't manipulate our elections as openly as down there).

We are thinking of relocating to Colorado but unlike all these writers we have been looking in the Breckenridge, Como, Fairplay, Alma area. We have not visited this area so we are welcome to suggestions or opinions. No need to talk dirty...just give a nice opinion about the area. We have found homes for under $200K in this area on 2+ acres of land and new 2004 built homes. But, like I said I have no idea about the area. I am in medical supply sales and am searching for a position across this area based out of Boulder or Denver. I might be dreaming if I think I can live out there and still maintain my high income position. That's what you guys are for...to set me straight. My husband is a hair stylist and we are trying to determine what kind of money he can make out there. In Atlanta he is a top producer bringing home over $100,000 a year but we are sure and prepared that we will not be so lucky out there. Please advise!!

You might want to repost your question, so readers know there's more to this than a message from 2000.

Are you considering living in Breck, Como, Fairplay, Alma and commuting to Denver or Boulder? Or working a medical supply sales position from your home? The former would be very difficult - it's about 1 1/2 hour drive (in good conditions) from any of those towns to Denver.

Breck, as you probably already know, is a pretty-expensive but nice resort town. Alma and Como are blink of an eye sorts of towns on either side of Fairplay, which isn't much bigger. The area is gorgeous, but there really isn't much there in terms of civilization. As an example, I'm guessing Fairplay has a grocery store, but if so, it's more of a convenience store. You'd have to drive to Breck, over a pass, about 25 min. away, to get to the one real grocery store (but once you're there, it has a pretty good selection).

I know there are hair salons in Breck, because I've seen them; I wouldn't know about in the other towns. But I can't imagine that even those in Breck are high-end sorts of places. There are definitely upper-income folks in Breck who'd want upper-income haircuts, but most locals are more into outdoor activities than having great hair!

And a comment on the weather. While the climate in Denver and the other Front Range cities/towns is quite mild (for example, I went running on Christmas day), interpersed with snowstorms, in the mountains there's snow from October through the end of April, and sometimes later (I was in Vail one year and it snowed on Memorial Day). Are you really ready for that much winter?

If you're seriously thinking about any of those places, you need to visit before you think much further. It would be a definite lifestyle choice to live in Breck, Alma, etc. Good luck!

Linny, forget Breck you will never earn enough to maintain your current life style. Like lemexa said Como, Fairplay, Alma are very rural. Nothing there, mostly ranch lands and retirees or folks that cannot afford Summit County prices. Long drive to anything.

With your background your better off in Denver. I too am in medical sales. lots of opportunity here. I know little about the salon business here. I do have a friend that works at a high end spa/salon in Evergreen she makes no where near 100K.

Housing in the 200K range will be a challange.
