Is the Carousel still running near the Dairy in Central Park? Am I remembering this correctly?

Was there when i went last year

Another question, i'd like to go visit the Woodlawn Cemetary in the Bronx to pay respects to various people,
i went last year and attempted to go again on a second trip, but got lost and now i've discovered that there are others interred there who i'd like to pay my respects to

Could anyone help me with the easiest way to get there on the subway from Manhattan? I know you have to change somewhere because thats how i got lost last Sept when i didn't change..

Any help very much appreciated

It's at the end of the Uptown 4 train - the one you take to Yankee Stadium. Great walking exercise before a baseball game.

I have taken 3 granddaughters and countless little girl visitors to the American Girl store. Not my thing but the girls really love it. Plus, there are inexpensive things to buy in the bookstore. It is America and it is for little girls. I would recommend it, but do NOT eat there, terrible food.
The Met museum has drop in art classes (really just doing stuff time, NO pressure) which are very relaxing for a visiting little child. Check the website for times.

Excellent suggestions here. I have a 4 year old as well, I would skip American Girl altogether, such a time drain and it is ALWAYS a zoo! I would stick with Central Park and Museum of Natural History, and if you want to stay near your hotel, Madison Square Park is a great park. You can always just walk around, grab a slice of pizza, get an ice cream cone. Keep it simple. My son just loves to walk around the city with me while I'm running errands. He makes the best observations, and I just love to see him in awe of the tall buildings that "only spider man and super man can climb!". He was born in this city - yet still he finds it magical. And when he gets tired of walking he LOVES to be the one to hail a cab. It's a treat. And I know that this is an obvious statement but I'm going to make it anyway, if you do take a subway, do not let go of her hand for a second! They're quick little buggers, and the subway always makes me nervous with my kids. It's stimulation overload and for me stress overload on just keeping them safe. I'm sure you know this but there, I feel better.
Have fun!

I'm getting really excited now, only 10 days until we fly!!

Madison Square Park sounds like it'll be a great place to head when we finally make it to Manhattan, its a long time since my daughter's flown long haul, i'm not entirely sure how well she'll cope with the time difference/jet lag but a park would be a great place to keep her awake for as long as possible and i cope with the time change well enough
We're travelling with a stroller, i anticipate there could be a lot of walking on this trip and while she's a good walker she's far to heavy to carry and also means can do some shopping in the evening after dinner (if she's asleep in toys r us so be it )
Hmmm we may pay a visit to the American Girls Store and pick up a couple of books (i know i loved them when i was 5) we're taking the train coast to coast (with 7 stops along the way) the more entertainment the better!
Good top about keeping them close, i get worried enough at home when i can see her if she goes ahead, i know well enough how busy New York can get!

Yes - How about strolling to Grand Central and taking the 4 train from there. On your way stop at the New York Public Library and take your 4 year old to see the original Pooh Dolls. Better than American Girl Place.

The direct trip to Woodlawn from your hotel would be to walk a few block to Park Avenue and 28th St to catch the #6 Uptown. Go two stops to Grand Central where you can cross the platform to catch the #4 to Woodlawn—last stop.

Well so far we've been to Madison Square Park and eaten at the ShakeShack, taken the Statern Island Ferry and back, been to Woodlawn and paid respects to Vernon and Irene Castle and Irving Berlin, been to the Highline and had 4 rides on the carousel at pier 62

You are doing great so far!! Did you actually go to Yankee Stadium? And if you liked Woodlawn, there is always Greenwood in Brooklyn to explore.

At Woodlawn, did you walk to the intersection south of Irving Berlin where you can visit Duke Ellington and family, Miles Davis, and Lionel Hampton? Keep on going past the Ellingtons and you will reach . . . my grandparents! Glad you are having fun.
